By Fully Injected Motorsports:
FOREST, Ohio (July 5, 2022) – Despite a relatively quiet start to the weekend, highlighting their two-day USAC National Sprint Car Series visit to Lincoln Park Speedway with an 11th-place finish in the Bill Gardner Sprintacular opener on Friday, July 1, Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports turned up the heat on Sunday night at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio, and ultimately cashed in for their second Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) victory of the season, capturing the annual Jack Hewitt Classic for a $4,000 payday.
Powering ahead from sixth on the grid, Westfall proved he was the man to beat right from the start, eventually taking command before withstanding multiple late race cautions, as well as a near catastrophe with five circuits remaining. The catastrophe, nearly sending Westfall on the wild ride, was the result of heavy contact with Waynesfield’s berm. Luckly, Westfall returned to all four tires safely and drove on to score his first Hewitt Classic title since 2009.
Impressive, nonetheless, Westfall’s campaign from sixth was short and sweet, battling ahead to second with only seven laps checked off the counter, his winning move three laps later.
“That was fun. It’s pretty special to win a race with Jack Hewitt’s name attached to it,” Matt Westfall explained, driver of Ray Marshall’s Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc./Hempy Water/DPI Ink No. 33M sprint car. “Hats off to this entire team, especially Ray Marshall, for hanging tough after a little bit of frustration at Lincoln Park. I’ve always been comfortable at Waynesfield and I think this win really solidifies that. I think a few more wins for Ray are in order. He’s the backbone and allows all of this to happen.”
ON DECK:
Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports will continue their 2022 campaign with a visit to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota, for the three-day USAC Nationals on Friday through Sunday, July 8-10.
