FOREST, Ohio (September 20, 2021) – Despite kicking off the weekend with a 14th-place score during USAC National Sprint Cars competition at Circle City Raceway on Friday, September 17, Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports found another gear during Saturday’s visit to Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, and ultimately capped their weekend on the podium.
Westfall, driver of Ray Marshall’s Ray Marshall Motorsports/Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc./Hempy Water/DPI Ink/Bumblebee Express/No. 33M sprint car, finished third during his visit to “The Track That Action Built,” climbing ahead seven spots after starting tenth on the main event grid. The Pleasant Hill, Ohio, open wheeler launched his evening in northwest Ohio with a third-place finish during his respective heat race.
Certainly no stranger to Fremont Speedway, Westfall is a former BOSS Series main event winner at the facility, earning his most recent win on July 13, 2019. In addition, Westfall finished fourth with the BOSS non-wingers during a Fremont start in mid-August.
Westfall has one BOSS triumph in 2021, that occurring at “Dirt’s Monster Half Mile” – Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.
“If we would have started a little closer to the front, I think we may have had a shot,” Westfall said of his Fremont performance. “Regardless, I can’t say enough about Ray Marshall and this entire Ray Marshall Motorsports team. Ray gives us the opportunity and the equipment to be successful and I couldn’t be more grateful to be the man who gets to do the fun part.”
Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with another jam-packed weekend along the Indiana/Ohio corridor, launching their slate with a Thursday night visit to Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Indiana, on Thursday, September 25. The team will then visit the World’s Greatest Dirt Track, Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, for 4-Crown Nationals competition on Saturday, September 25. Westfall will not only participate in the USAC Sprint Car portion of Eldora’s 4-Crown, but he will also enter the Silver Crown portion of the weekend program.
