FOREST, Ohio (August 31, 2020) – The Kokomo Sprint Car Smackdown was not too kind to Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports during the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday, August 27 and 28, but the team rebounded in a big way on Saturday night and scored a victory during the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) portion of the program.
Certainly no stranger to victory lane during BOSS non-wing action, the 2019 Series champion and four-time winner started sixth on the feature grid and worked his way to the front in a hurry, mastering the top groove, as well as the bottom groove, to secure his place on the Kokomo Speedway victory lane platform. The BOSS Smackdown win is a second consecutive for Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports, now with five Series victories over two seasons.
Each occurring in the state of Indiana, Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports now own two victories in 2020 with the first registered at Gas City I-69 Speedway on July 17.
“This feels pretty good. The week didn’t start off too hot for us, but to rebound like this and get a win says so much,” Matt Westfall said, who kicked-off his Smackdown visit with 22nd and 24th-place finishes during USAC events. “I can’t thank Ray Marshall and the entire team enough for their support over the last few years. We are out here having a lot of fun. Getting a win in front of a packed house at Kokomo only makes things better.”
“I couldn’t be more proud of the team,” Ray Marshall continued, owner of the Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc./Hempy Water/DPI Ink/No. 33M sprint car. “Matt (Westfall) kept his focus all weekend and it really shows. That can be hard to do, especially at a big event like the Smackdown. We know we are capable of doing big things. I’m more than confident big things will continue to happen for this race team.”
