Mechanicsburg, Pa – Williams Grove Speedway will host the World of Outlaws sprint cars for a two-day stand, this Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. each night.

The open wheel showdown will etch the latest chapter in the book of Outlaws Vs. Pennsylvania Posse history.  It is a rivalry that dates back to the World of Outlaws formation in 1978.

May World of Outlaws racing at the famed Williams Grove oval dates to 1980 when Sammy Swindell won for the traveling band in a 40-lap main event.

Since that time, another 60 Outlaws races have been run at the Grove in May with only about a third of that number being claimed by the Posse.

But in recent seasons the locals have dominated the May scene when the Outlaws roll into town having claimed the four events contested from 2009 to present.

Those winners have been Greg Hodnett, Chad Layton, Fred Rahmer and most recently in May 2011, Daryn Pittman.

Friday’s World of Outlaws main event will be 25 laps in distance with Saturday’s main going for 30 laps.  The Saturday victor will pocket $12,000.

A full program of qualifying time trials, heat races, last chance races and a dash will set the A Main grids.  Fireworks are also on the program both nights.

An added feature to the Saturday program will be the second running of the Morgan Cup Challenge, named for late speedway owner Morgan Hughes.

The 2nd Morgan Cup will pit five of the top Outlaws drivers and five top Posse drivers against one another for Outlaws Vs. Posse bragging rights.

The winner of the short but lucrative 12-lap event will claim $4,000 and the Morgan Cup, which will spend the next 12 months at the home of the winner’s respective circuit, either Williams Grove Speedway or World of Outlaws headquarters.

Following the Outlaws shows, Williams Grove will host the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprints and the Tool Shed of America 358 sprints when it returns to action on Friday, May 18.

The Williams Grove Saturday Series continues on May 19 with super sportsman, 358 late models and street stocks – all for the low price of just $5.00 general admission.
