Stewart finishes sixth during Thursday Night Thunder at Virginia Motor Speedway

Date: Thursday, April 11th
Event: Thursday Night Thunder
Series: Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1
Track: Virginia Motor Speedway (Jamaica, Va.)
Tony Stewart A-Main Finish (Start): 6th (6th)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (April 15, 2019) – Despite Mother Nature wreaking havoc on much of Tony Stewart’s weekend in the Mid-Atlantic, the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion did have the opportunity to compete with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 on one occasion, visiting the state-of-the-art Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Va., on Thursday, April 11.

The $10,000-to-win, Thursday Night Thunder program resulted in a top-ten finish for the driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Toco/Rush Truck Centers/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 14 sprint car, ultimately maintaining a top-ten position to finish sixth after starting in the exact same spot.

Smoke finished sixth in the Thursday Night Thunder dash to earn his third row starting position, solidifying his way in the dash lineup by finishing second during his respective heat race.

Despite finishing where he started, Stewart pressured the front-runners for much of the 30-lap program, eventually forced to settle for sixth after losing a pair of spots to Cale Conley and Aaron Reutzel during the closing circuits. In fact, Stewart was racing for positions well inside the top-five during the $10,000-to-win main event, but a near-spin during a battle with Brock Zearfoss at the midpoint of the 30-lapper erased some much needed momentum.

“That was a lot of fun. We had a close call during our race with Brock [Zearfoss], but we were able to stick with it and battle for a top-five,” Tony Stewart explained, a two-time sprint car winner thus far in 2019. “That caution with two laps to go kinda hurt those racing hard in traffic. It was going to get interesting at the end. Hopefully we have the opportunity to return to Virginia Motor Speedway in the future.”

‘Smoke’ Tony Stewart will return to competition this Friday and Saturday, April 19 & 20, with the two-day Core & Main Spring Nationals at Attica Raceway Park, sanctioned by the All Star Circuit of Champions. Smoke will enter the highly-competitive program with one All Star victory to his credit this season, that occurring at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., on Saturday, February 2.

Zearfoss finds podium during All Star action at Virginia Motor Speedway

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

JONESTOWN, Pa. (April 15, 2019) – The ‘Jonestown Jet’ Brock Zearfoss returned to All Star Circuit of Champions competition in a big way during the recent weekend, opening the 2019 All Star points battle, officially, with a podium run during Thursday Night Thunder action at Virginia Motor Speedway on Thursday, April 11.

Zearfoss, driver of the Premier Motorsports/Moose’s LZ Bar & Grill/Heavy Equipment, Loaders & Parts Inc./BAPS Auto Paint & Supply/Meckley’s Limestone Products/Berkebile Oil Company/River City Wood Products/No. 70 sprint car, finished third during his first-ever visit to the state-of-the-art Virginia Motor Speedway, moving ahead from the inside of row three.

In fact, Zearfoss was in the hunt for a win during all 30 circuits, actually closing-in on Danny Dietrich and Cory Eliason, the lead pair, during an intense battle in traffic with just five circuits remaining. Unfortunately, a caution with two laps remaining erased all hope for Zearfoss, as race leader, Cory Eliason, was left with an open track and clean air.

“We were right there,” Zearfoss explained regarding Thursday’s finish. “That caution with two laps remaining really took me out of it, not unless something would have happened to Eliason or Dietrich. Regardless, I’m proud of my team and all of their hard work. To come out of the box and be that fast says something about this team. We have a long points season ahead with the All Stars. We’re excited to be here.”

Although on pace to score a second-consecutive top-ten performance with the All Star Circuit of Champions, Zearfoss’ luck ran short during Port Royal Speedway’s Keith Kauffman Classic on Saturday evening, April 13, eventually suffering from a flat right-rear tire that forced the nearby-Jonestown, Pennsylvania-native to exit the main event early; he was scored 25th after starting 11th.

All Star competition set for Friday and Sunday, April 12 & 14, at Williams Grove Speedway and Bedford Speedway, respectively, was cancelled due to Mother Nature.

Brock Zearfoss and Premier Motorsports will continue their 2019 All Star Circuit of Champions campaign with a two-day visit to Attica Raceway Park on Friday and Saturday, April 19 & 20. The former Port Royal Speedway track champion will enter the Core & Main Spring Nationals tied for ninth in the current All Star driver championship standings.

Michael back in the top-ten at Attica Raceway Park

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

FREMONT, Ohio (April 15, 2019) – Consistency is certainly the key, and that is exactly what the ‘Texas Traveler’ T.J. Michael is practicing at Attica Raceway Park.

Michael, driver of the Michael Motorsports/Advanced Architectural Stone/Crown Battery/Fremont Fence Company/Pro-Tech Services/Wood Heating and Air Conditioning/Kear’s Speed Shop/Soul Fully Rooted/Big D’s Pizza/No. 8M sprint car, followed up on his tenth place finish at Attica Raceway Park on Saturday, April 6, with another top-ten run on Friday, April 12, this time finishing eighth during Attica/Fremont Championship Series (AFCS) competition.

For Michael, not only is the consistency important in terms of overall success, but gaining confidence and momentum also derives from consistent finishes, all great attributes to own especially with the All Star Circuit of Champions making their way to Attica Raceway Park on Friday and Saturday, April 19 & 20.

“I’m not sure of our plan for Saturday just yet, but we’ll definitely be at Attica on Friday for the first night of the Spring Nationals. I’m excited,” T.J. Michael expressed, who is a former 305c.i. sprint car winner at Attica. “[Attica] is a track we want to be good at. We’ve been working our tails off at getting faster and faster at that place. Things are finally starting to come together, and at no better time.”

Although initial plans include joining the All Star Circuit of Champions at Attica Raceway Park for night one of Core & Main Spring Nationals competition on Friday, April 19, Michael may follow the FAST Series trail to Twin Cities Raceway Park on Saturday, April 20. A final decision will be made later in the week.

In addition to his Attica Raceway Park start on Friday, April 12, the ‘Texas Traveler’ also made the short trip to Fremont Speedway for their season-opening program on Saturday, April 13. Unfortunately, a mechanical mishap during B-main action erased all hope for Michael to compete in the evening’s A-main. A broken front end bolt was the culprit.

Baker earns top-ten during OVSCA action; Attica ahead

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

SHREVE, Ohio (April 15, 2019) – Although his Friday night visit to Attica Raceway Park ended before a single feature lap could be completed, accidental contact with another competitor forced an early retirement, Shreve, Ohio’s Trevor Baker rebounded in a big way on Saturday at Wayne County Speedway and earned a top-ten performance with the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA).

Baker, driver of the T-Rev Performance/Baker’s Mobile Home Transport/Exodus Cycle/Coblentz Trucking/No. 45 sprint car, finished eighth during his visit to ‘Orrville’s Historic Oval’ on Saturday, April 13, kicking things off, officially, with an impressive rally from seventh to finish fourth during his respective heat race.

Trevor Baker is certainly no stranger to action at Wayne County Speedway. In fact, Baker’s first-ever 410c.i. sprint car victory occurred at the Orrville highbanks in 2017.

“That’s not how we wanted things to end at Attica, but I’m glad we were able to rebound and do some good things at Wayne County Speedway the next day,” Trevor Baker said, who started 13th at Attica Raceway Park before the race-ending contact occurred. “We were able to move forward all night at Wayne County Speedway. That’s really encouraging. All we can do now is keep using our notes and work for solid finishes everywhere we go. I’m excited to join the All Stars this weekend. It will be a solid field, but we’ll do whatever we can to make the big dance on Friday.”

Up next on the schedule, Trevor Baker and T-Rev Performance will return to action on Friday evening, April 19, at Attica Raceway Park, joining Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions for night one of the Core & Main Spring Nationals. If all goes according to plan, Baker will return for night two of the Core & Main Spring Nationals on Saturday, April 20. Plans will be finalized in the coming days.

Brent Marks finishes 13th at Devil’s Bowl

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

MYERSTOWN, Pa. (April 15, 2019) – Concluding a southern sweep that included visits to Arizona and Texas, the ‘Myerstown Missile’ Brent Marks spent his recent weekend in the Lone Star State, joining the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series during the annual Texas Outlaw Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday and Saturday, April 12 & 13.

Although the two-day visit was cut to one day due to Mother Nature, Brent Marks made the most of his trip to the historic Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite and finished 13th during main event competition on Friday, April 12.

Increasingly narrow track conditions, the end-result of a rubber-down racing surface, made passing a premium during certain segments of the race; Brent Marks started 14th.

“It wasn’t a bad night for our team. When the track starts to build rubber like that, it can make things really tricky, especially when you’re trying to pass. At that point, all you can do is hold your line and keep the car straight,” Brent Marks explained, driver of the Brent Marks Racing/M&M Painting & Construction/BAPS Auto Paint & Supply/Eagle Hotel/No. 19 sprint car. “I’m not sure what we plan to do next weekend. We may try and make a start at Port Royal Speedway since we’ll be home, but I’m not too sure.”

Brent Marks will enjoy a potential off-weekend before returning to World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series competition on Friday through Sunday, April 26-28. The Greatest Show On Dirt will visit a trio of tracks spread across areas of Missouri and Illinois, first visiting Lake Ozark Speedway in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., on Friday, April 26. Action will continue on Saturday and Sunday, April 27 & 28, with visits to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., and Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway, respectively.

Pending a decision later in the week, Brent Marks may enter local action at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday, April 20.

Utilizing the pole position, the second-year Lincoln Speedway frequent flyer and reigning Rookie of the Year battled inside the top-five the entire 25-lap distance, eventually settling for fifth at the final checkers. Michalski kicked off the evening program by finishing second during his respective heat race.

The recent top-five included, Michalski now owns a pair of Lincoln Speedway top-ten finishes in 2019 with the first, a tenth place finish, occurring during the season-opening Icebreaker. Danny Dietrich doubles-up in the runner-up column during All Star action

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (April 15, 2019) – It was an exciting weekend for ‘Double-D’ Danny Dietrich, and although the Gettysburg-native was unable to find victory lane with the All Star Circuit of Champions, the former Series winner did the next best thing and scored a pair of runner-up finishes during action at Virginia Motor Speedway and Port Royal Speedway on Thursday and Saturday, April 11 & 13, respectively.

In addition, the driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing/Weikert’s Livestock/Sandoe’s Fruit Market/Pace Performance/Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts/Drop Of Ink Tattoo/Sweeney Cars/Self Made/No. 48 sprint car led 34 laps of All Star competition during the recent weekend; six laps at Virginia Motor Speedway on Thursday and 28 laps at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday

Ironically enough, a caution with two laps remaining served Dietrich his fate during each night of action. That trend ignited at Virginia Motor Speedway when yellow flags erased all potential for Dietrich to regain the lead from Cory Eliason in traffic. Dietrich was in hot pursuit of the California-native, but caution flags allowed Eliason to restart on a clear track in clean air.

On Saturday at the Port Royal ‘Speed Palace,’ Dietrich led the first 28 circuits, all before losing the lead to Lance Dewease during a restart.

“That was quite the weekend. I wish the weather would have cooperated to allow us to race more than twice, but still a great effort by my team. We’ve been working hard and the results show,” Danny Dietrich said, who owns three victories thus far in 2019. “We were good enough to win both races, I feel like, but sometimes that’s not how things go. We have a lot of racing left this season. The wins will come.”

Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will continue their 2019 campaign with a pair of stops in Central Pennsylvania, first visiting Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, April 19, followed by a stop at the ‘Fabulous’ Lincoln Speedway on Saturday, April 20.

Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Track: Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Ariz.)
Donny Schatz A-Main Finish (Start): 4th (13th)
**Hard Charger Award

2019 World of Outlaws Championship Standings: 2nd – 1542 points (four points behind Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (April 8, 2019) – Continuing a trend of consistency that has now surpassed everyone on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series trail, earning 11 top-ten finishes in 11 Series starts, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz left Arizona with back-to-back fourth place finishes during main event competition, the second being the result of a hard charge from row seven.

Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 15 sprint car, kicked off his weekend with a visit to USA Raceway near Tucson on Friday, April 5. A narrow, but ultra-fast racing surface made passing a premium, thus making it difficult for Schatz to recover after fading to fourth from the pole position during the initial start. Despite countless attempts to rebound, fourth is where Schatz stayed. Although not ending his evening on top, Schatz was near-flawless during preliminary competition, ultimately earning victories during his respective heat race and the evening’s dash.

Despite the end-result being identical, Schatz’ performance at Arizona Speedway on Saturday, April 6, to attain the fourth place finish was more than impressive, rallying from the inside of row seven to do so. In addition, Schatz earned the evening’s Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions during feature competition.

“We experienced a little bit of everything this weekend in Arizona. Friday’s result was a little tough to swallow considering we started on the pole, but it is what it is,” Donny Schatz expressed. “It was a fun stretch on the West Coast, but I think we’re ready to head back east.”

Up next on the schedule, Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will visit Devil’s Bowl Speedway near Mesquite, Texas, on Friday and Saturday, April 12 & 13. Schatz will enter Texas Outlaw Nationals weekend second in the current World of Outlaws championship standings, trailing Brad Sweet by a mere-four markers.
