BROWNSBURG, Ind. (April 12, 2021) – It has not been an easy stretch for Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz, unable to reach the top-ten during his Tri-State Speedway start on Saturday, April 10, following another unexpected “DNF” while in action at Kokomo Speedway on Friday, April 9, but the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion and 299-time Series winner will aim high to put that poor momentum to the side, as the Greatest Show On Dirt preps for their return to Oklahoma and Texas for a two-race sweep on April 16-17.
Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Carquest Auto Parts/Curb Records/Ford Performance/Sage Fruit/Digital Ally/Advance Auto Parts/Rush Truck Centers/Absolute Automation and Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/J&J Auto Racing/No. 15 sprint car, will begin the coming weekend with a visit to Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Oklahoma, on Friday, April 16. A destination on the WoO schedule for a second consecutive season, Schatz finished sixth during his Lawton appearance in 2020, improving one position after starting seventh on the 35-lap grid.
The upcoming weekend will continue, as well as conclude, with the historic Texas Outlaw Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on Saturday, April 17. Competitors will chase a $20,000 top prize during their visit to greater Dallas; a venue that has been on the World of Outlaws schedule since Series action commenced in 1978.
Incidentally, Schatz’ 2020 Devil’s Bowl start ended in the exact same manner as his Lawton visit; improving one position to finish sixth. Just two years prior, Schatz was the Devil’s Bowl Texas Outlaw Nationals winner, banking a $20,000 payday over Brad Sweet and Shane Stewart.
Despite final results ending short of expectation, Schatz’ recent weekend in the Hoosier State did have some shining moments, at least on Friday at Kokomo Speedway when the ten-time champ finished second during his respective heat race, ultimately qualifying for the evening’s dash. A seventh-place dash result allowed Schatz to start the main event from the inside of row four.
Unfortunately, his campaign inside the top-ten was short lived, as issues from under the hood forced Schatz to go pit-side after one circuit.
Schatz was scored 16th in Tri-State Speedway’s 40-lap contest on Saturday, forced to battle through the Last Chance Showdown to make the A-Main after finishing sixth during his respective heat race.
