ALGER, Wash. (March 1, 2024) – Effective immediately, Everett, Washington’s Gaylon Stewart, a 25-year racing veteran and former Co-Director of the Northwest Focus Midget Series (NWFMS), has been named Race Director of Alger, Washington’s own Skagit Speedway, which will activate its 2024 schedule officially with the “May the Fourth Be With You” Opening Night program on Saturday, May 4.
“I can’t wait to get started,” Stewart acknowledged. “It’s no question that Skagit Speedway is reaching new heights with its current ownership and staff. Their goal from day one has been to build a better product, not only for the racers, but for the fans. That’s what attracted me to this position the most. I hope to only add to that winning formula and really help elevate Skagit to an even higher level. May can’t come soon enough.”
Stewart, who built a ten-year tenure with the Northwest Focus Midget Series before accepting the position at Skagit Speedway, hopes to utilize his prior experiences within competition and management to not only propel Skagit in its current upward trajectory, but simultaneously build on its current market outreach, ultimately solidifying Skagit Speedway as the northwest’s premier short track facility.
“We are beyond excited to welcome Gaylon Stewart to the Skagit Speedway team,” Kevin Rudeen, Skagit Speedway co-owner, said. “Stewart’s passion is unmatched, and to have someone with his level of experience and expertise is a real rarity. We’re privileged to have him as Race Director of Skagit Speedway.”
Impressive as it is competitive, Skagit Speedway’s 2024 agenda includes an array of heavy-hitting programs, most notable the annual Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals set for August 29-31. The High Limit Sprint Car Series event will headline with a $100,000-to-win finale on Saturday, August 31.
In addition, Skagit Speedway will host the NARC King of the West sprint cars for the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup on June 20-22, as well as the Bob’s Burgers & Brews Summer Nationals, featuring the 360ci sprint cars, on July 26-27.
