ST. HELENA, Calif. (May 6, 2019) – Mother Nature has certainly been a burden, but that did not stop Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing from finding action in the Midwest.
With their initial plans to join the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series for a pair of events getting the boot by Mother Nature, Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu Racing decided to make the trip north from their Indiana base camp to southern Wisconsin, joining the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series during action at Wilmot Raceway on Saturday, May 4.
The trip to the Badger State proved successful for the St. Helena, California-native, ultimately qualifying for main event competition with a runner-up finish during heat race action, soon followed by a rally from 11th to finish third during the 30-lap feature. Abreu secured the final podium spot with just six laps remaining, eventually getting one last opportunity for victory as caution flags flew with five to go. Unfortunately, Abreu did not have enough.
The end-result bumped Abreu’s top-five total to six on the season, now with ten top-ten performances in 17 starts.
“We really needed that one, especially after all of the tough results we have been experiencing,” Rico Abreu explained, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Southern Pacific Farms/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car. “This team has all of the potential in the world and they work really hard. Working even harder and earning positive results will help us build some momentum for the rest of the summer. I’m excited to get back to work.”
Continuing his trek through the Midwest, Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will next visit the Buckeye State, once again joining the Greatest Show On Dirt on the highbanks of Eldora Speedway. Abreu will take part in the annual #LetsRaceTwo weekend at The Big E, entering back-to-back programs with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Friday and Saturday, May 10 & 11.
During his 2018 #LetsRaceTwo attempt, Abreu qualified for each of the contested main events, highlighting his weekend with an 18th place finish on Saturday night.
