ST. HELENA, Calif. (October 11, 2021) – It was a wild weekend on the West Coast for St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu, and although the recent All Star Circuit of Champions 4-Crown Nationals champion was able to enjoy his return to California soil, there was little time to relax, as Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing had to quickly prepare for a stout weekend at Keller Auto Speedway.

Abreu, driver of the Rowdy Energy/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Wiser Agency/Salty’s BBQ/Self Made Racing/XYZ Machine/No. 24 sprint car, entered each of the programs hosted at Keller Auto Speedway on October 8-9, first entering the Sprint Car Challenge Tour’s 36th Annual Cotton Classic on Friday, followed by the King of the West/NARC Morrie Williams Memorial/Kenny Takeuchi Tribute on Saturday.

When the dust settled in Hanford, Abreu found himself with a pair of top-five outcomes, opening action with a fourth-place score in the Cotton Classic on Friday, quickly followed by another fourth-place score in the first of two KWS/NARC features on Saturday. Abreu tried his best to finish the weekend three-for-three within the top-five, but the second feature inversion made it difficult to overcome; Abreu went on to finish 14th after starting 16th.

“It was a fun weekend in Hanford and I’m proud of our results, but all eyes are on the Trophy Cup,” Rico Abreu said. “We made some Trophy Cup history in 2019, so it’s our goal to do that again.”

Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will continue their 2021 campaign with the Abreu Vineyards Trophy Cup presented by Rudeen Racing at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway on October 21-23. The three-day blockbuster will feature three complete programs each awarding $4,000 to the main event winner. The weekend’s overall points champion will receive a $15,000 bonus.

Certainly no stranger to Tulare’s Trophy Cup, Abreu was the 2019 event champion, actually sweeping the entire three-day program to earn $26,000. Abreu’s history making Trophy Cup performance had never been accomplished before. He won main events from fifth, tenth, and 17th.
