BLANEY TO COMPETE IN PORT ROYAL DREAM RACE AUGUST 3, NASCAR STAR MEETS FANS BEFORE EVENT
July 21st, 2013
Port Royal – Fans attending the August 3 Living Legends Dream Race for sprint cars at Port Royal Speedway will not only have the chance to meet and greet legends honorees Todd Shaffer and Patty Beam and a cast of former Beam No. 88 drivers but they will also have the chance to meet NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Dave Blaney and see him race.

Blaney, a native of Ohio now residing in North Carolina, currently drives the Tommy Baldwin Racing No. 7 Chevrolet on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit.

But his roots are in open wheel sprint car racing and in fact it was Blaney who invaded Port Royal back in March, making a rare sprint car start before walking off with opening day laurels.

An autograph session with Blaney, Beam and Shaffer along with Beam drivers Chuck Reinert, Larry Jackson, Scott Gesford and Kevin Nouse will take place before the races.

After autographs, Blaney will return to the pit area and strap in for competition as he again gets behind the wheel of a sprint car to compete, this time for Port Royal Dream Race laurels.

Now 50, Blaney is a former World of Outlaws sprint car champion, a Knoxville Nationals champion and a USAC Silver Crown series titlist.

He has also been victorious this season in sprint car racing at Hagerstown, Maryland, where he scored the Pennsylvania Speedweek feature for sprint cars in early July.

Blaney began focusing on pavement racing and the NASCAR circuits in 1998 after winning the 1995 World of Outlaws sprint car title and the Knoxville Nationals in 1997.

The Living Legends Dream Race will include a pair of 16-lap semi mains and the 30-lap Dream A Main and time trials.

The total purse alone for the Dream Race is worth more than $50,000 and with the contingency cash added in and another $7,000 value or more added to the pot to account for contingency prizes that will be given away, the total dollar value on the night for the sprint car drivers has now surpassed $60,000.
