GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (June 29, 2022) – Despite what turned out to be a frustrating first two days at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota, first scored 23rd in a World of Outlaws make-up event on Wednesday, June 22, then failing to make main event action during Huset’s’ High Bank Nationals opener the following evening, “Blackjack” Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing maintained focus and rebounded in a big way, driving on to finish second in Friday’s $20,000-to-win High Bank Nationals preliminary.
Brown, a recent World of Outlaws winner at Knoxville Raceway, led the vast majority of the 35-lap program, using the turn four cushion to blast around race leader, Riley Goodno, on lap nine. It was not until lap 33 when Brown’s party was spoiled, losing command to Jason Johnson Racing’s Carson Macedo.
The team’s decision to venture south out of Huset’s Speedway and join the ASCS National Tour at I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa, Missouri, on Saturday, June 25, also nearly led to a victory, finishing second after leading laps 16-28. A motor stumble during the main event’s green/white/checkered finish allowed Oklahoma City’s Wayne Johnson to slip by.
“Danny, Justin, and my Dad did a terrific job. They worked their tails off which allowed us to turn our weekend around at Huset’s and ultimately cap the weekend with a pair of second-place finishes,” Brian Brown explained, driver of the Casey’s, FVP, Andy’s Frozen Custard, Impact Signs Awnings and Wraps, Rowdy Energy, Ditzfeld transfer, Champion Brands, MC Power, Weld Wheels, Housby, Maxim Chassis, J.D. Welding & Machine, Waldinger, Smiley’s Racing Products, Wolfe Eye Clinic, Mid Mo Equipment, Bell Helmets, K1 RaceGear, No. 21 sprint car. “We put ourselves in great positions all night on Friday at Huset’s, but you can’t give a guy like Carson Macedo an opportunity to capitalize. We were definitely in another great position to win on Saturday at I-70, but a stumble allowed Wayne (Johnson) to get by us during the green/white/checkered finish. Regardless, it was a great way to end the weekend, especially with some of our great partners with us at I-70.”
