SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (June 29, 2022) – The “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73 will have an action-packed campaign close to home over Independence Day weekend, set to join the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series for a one-night stop at Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisconsin, on Thursday, June 30, followed by a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Spectacular at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, on Friday and Saturday, July 1-2.

Certainly no stranger to IRA and Outlaws competition, Thiel will enter his holiday tripleheader on the back of two IRA victories in 2022, accompanied by a pair of respectable finishes during WoO competition at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; the “Big Wheel” was 13th and 14th, respectively.

“It should be an exciting weekend, especially having the chance to race relatively close to home,” Scotty Thiel explained, ace of the Gibbsville Cheese, Walkers Game Ear, Professional Plating Inc, Scott Thiel Builders, Stealth Cam, Muddy Outdoors, Complete Water Inc, KSI Supply, No. 73 sprint car. “We took a weekend off to kinda regroup and refocus, and I think it’s done us a lot of good. We’ll get back into it tomorrow at Plymouth and work to kick-off the holiday weekend with a win.”

Thiel’s IRA accolades rolling into Independence Day weekend are rather impressive, to say the least. In fact, the Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native was undefeated in the first two rounds of the Series’ 2022 schedule, actually leading every lap of feature action at Beaver Day Raceway on April 23, followed by another wire-to-wire triumph at Sycamore Speedway on May 7.

“Being in contention for a win at Cedar Lake is the ultimate goal…that’s what we’re working toward,” Thiel added. “We want to keep that Outlaw money in Wisconsin.”
