Cody Bova Earns Third Win of 2015 at Thunder Mountain!
Bova Racing Returns to Action June 27th at Mercer Raceway Park

Struthers, Ohio (June 22nd, 2015)- Twenty-one-year-old Cody Bova secured his third victory of the 2015 season on Friday night, June 19th at the Thunder Mountain Speedway near Brookville, Pennsylvania; driving for long-time racer and car owner, Skip Dougherty. The Struthers, Ohio native, who competes in the ‘305’ sprint car ranks full-time in 2015, drives the Skip Dougherty Racing, V.G. Dougherty Real Estate, LLC., Court Reporting, Utilities and Industries, no. 27 ‘305’ sprint car on an occasional basis during his racing schedule. It was Bova’s first victory for Skip Dougherty Racing despite it being only his second time ever in the cockpit. Bova earned ‘top honors’ after starting third on the evening grid.
“This definitely feels great” said Cody Bova, “Skip Dougherty gave me a great opportunity this year to drive for him on certain nights and it is turning out to be a great relationship…this was only my second start in his car, so to get a win this early says a lot…we’ll be at Thunder Mountain more this year…we locked ourselves into a three race chase up there so hopefully we can keep this trend going and get back to victory lane.”
Cody Bova will return to the driver seat of his own Bova Racing, J.S. Bova Excavating, AIMI Product Imagining, LLC., Richardson Tree Service, no. 20B ‘305’ sprint car this Saturday night, June 27th back at the Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pennsylvania for a regular ‘Saturday Night Live’ program. Bova, who is enjoying his sophomore season in a winged sprint car, is a two-time feature winner at the Mercer Raceway Park in 2015 and currently finds himself on top of the current ‘Outlaw Sprint Warrior’ championship standings. The ‘Buckeye State’ native holds a six point advantage in the Mercer championship over George Hobaugh entering the June 27th program. Bova finished third last year in the final Mercer standings; on the strength of two main event victories.
“We’ll be back at Mercer this weekend” said Bova, “We’ve been pretty good there this year…earning a few wins is big for the title chase, but being consistent is just as important…we still have a lot of season ahead of us so we need to keep that momentum going in the right direction…I need to thank this entire team and everyone who supports it…this is a family deal and everyone is really dedicated…we are going to keep working towards that championship.”
Bova may also make an appearance at the Sportman’s Speedway near Knox, Pennsylvania on Sunday night, June 28th. The ‘305’ sprint cars are featured regularly at the Sportman’s oval. It will be a career-first sprint car start at the Knox short track for Cody Bova.
“We may head up to Sportsman’s on Sunday but we aren’t too sure yet of our game plan” said Bova, “We may take Skip Dougherty’s car up there, or we may take our own deal…we’ll see how the week goes and make a decision.”
