Cottage Grove on deck for Lucas Oil ASCS

Bryan Hulbert – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 14, 2013) From the sweeping three-eighths mile of Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash. to the tight quarter-mile of Cottage Grove, Ore. the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real squares off on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20 at the Cottage Grove Speedway.

Returning from a 2012 absence, the Cottage Grove Speedway has hosted the national arm of the American Sprint Car Series six times with Jason Johnson branding his name on the winner’s check four times, first on July 25, 2009 then July 23, 2010. The 2011 visit saw the MVT No. 41 sweep the July weekend.

Reassuming the points lead by a mere three markers over Johnny Herrera following his sixth victory of 2013 at the Grays Harbor Raceway, if history is any indication, Johnson will be tough to beat at the Oregon oval.

Calm as ever, Herrera’s record for 2013 speaks for itself with his first two wins of 2013 coming on short tracks before picking up a Speedweek victory at the half-mile Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Jeff Swindell continues to hold third in tour standings. Taking his streak of podium finishes to eight, a charge out of the B-Feature ended the streak with a seventh place finish at the Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Mont.

Brad Loyet holds fourth with Tony Bruce, Jr. improving back to fifth in the standings following his first Protect the Harvest feature event win of 2013 at the Electric City Speedway.

Logan Forler’s second victory of 2013 at the I-90 Speedway has kept the Arizona driver in a close fight with Bruce for the fifth spot in tour standings, currently 55 points removed from the top five. Seth Bergman, Dustin Morgan, Cole Wood, and Brandon Hahn complete the top ten in tour standings.
