GETTYSBURG, Pa. (February 8, 2021) – Danny Dietrich’s results in the Sunshine State were just as impressive as the fields were competitive, capping his five-day/four-race campaign during Volusia Speedway Park’s annual DIRTcar Nationals with a trio of top-ten finishes, two of which inside the top-five, ultimately ending the trip with a runner-up performance against the Greatest Show On Dirt on Sunday, February 7.
The Sunday night podium put a lid on a near-perfect program for the former Lincoln Speedway, Williams Grove Speedway, and Central PA sprint car champion, jump-starting the evening with the fastest time during qualifying time trials, all before winning his respective heat race. A third-place result during the evening’s dash allowed Dietrich to start on the inside of row two for the $10,000-to-win main event.
Before securing his podium with the World of Outlaws, Dietrich launched his DIRTcar Nationals efforts with a pair starts against the All Star Circuit of Champions on Wednesday and Thursday, February 3-4. Two A-Main starts equaled back-to-back top-tens for the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania-native, securing his first top-ten with an impressive rally from row nine to finish ninth on Wednesday.
The following evening, “Double-D” collected his first top-five of the season with a fifth-place outcome after starting third. Dietrich faded to seventh after the initial start, eventually recovering two spots to secure his top-five statistic. Impressive enough, Dietrich was forced to complete an engine change before his respective heat race; he would go on to win the heat in dominating fashion.
“What a trip. I can’t say enough about this team right now,” Danny Dietrich said, driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing/Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Self Made/No. 48 sprint car. “We get better and better every time we make the trip to Volusia. We were quick right out of the box this trip and that says a lot about the team’s readiness and dedication. I’m excited to see what the rest of the year has in store for us. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Initial plans suggested that Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing would make the trip to Georgia and Alabama and join the World of Outlaws during starts at Dixie Speedway and Talladega Short Track, respectively, but now the team will venture back to Pennsylvania and prepare for the upcoming Icebreaker at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday, February 20. Dietrich is the defending Icebreaker champion.
