Davies Delivers at NDRL’s McKean County Raceway’s ULMS ‘Duffy Memorial’

Smethport, PA (April 27, 2013) It took veteran racer Ron Davies of Warren, PA just ten laps to move into the lead and thirteen laps to pull away for good while taking home the $3,000 top prize in the NDRL’s ULMS sanctioned Jim & Mike Duffy Memorial at the NDRL’s McKean County Raceway.

Former World of Outlaws Late Model Series Rookie of the Year Russ King of Bristolville, OH and Eldred, PA’s Bob Close led the stacked 24 car field to the green flag with Close taking the early lead followed by King, Davies, and a hard charging Dave Hess Jr. Davies and King battled for the second place position with Davies gaining the advantage while Hess Jr., also made his way around King for third.

Close, who had lead from the drop of the green flag set a torrid pace before catching lapped traffic on lap nine giving Davies the opportunity to make a bid for the lead. Davies took full advantage of the opening and took the lead from Close as the field completed lap ten. Close would not go without a fight though as he regained the lead for laps 11 and 12 before Davies, who was also trying to hold off Hess Jr., was able to get by Close again on lap 13. Hess Jr. followed Davies around Close to take over the second spot before Close bounced off a rough patch in the racing surface sending his car into the air briefly and landing hard back onto the surface. Close slowed and pulled off ending his night on lap 15.
Davies picked up the pace around the Smethport, PA oval and pulled away from the field in his new Capital Race Cars chassis. While Davies continued to lead, Hess Jr. and King battled for the second position. The two were stuck behind a lapped car for numerous laps before Hess Jr. was finally able to work around the lapped car giving him clear race track in front of him and the ability to put some distance between himself and the third place car of King.

Davies went on to lead the rest of the way in capturing the ‘Jim and Mike Duffy Memorial’ and the $3,000 payday that went with it. Hess Jr. finished second with King third, Jason Dupont fourth and Boom Briggs rounding out the top five. Chris Hackett was sixth followed by Matt Urban in seventh, Dick Barton in eighth; Greg Oakes was ninth while Rich Garder came home tenth.
