GETTYSBURG, Pa. (April 29, 2024) – It was another hard-fought weekend in the Keystone State for “Double D” Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing, and despite launching their weekend effort with a near catastrophe in Port Royal Speedway’s annual Keith Kauffman Classic on Saturday, April 27, the Gettysburg native prevailed, capping the entire weekend slate with back-to-back top-tens including a ninth-place showing in the aforementioned Kauffman Classic.
Dietrich, driver of the Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Cochrancars.com, York Excavating, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Self Made Racing, No. 48 sprint car, started third on Port Royal’s grid and was well on his way to a top-five outcome, that until chaos ensued following red flag conditions. A small fire in Dietrich’s header ultimately led to his left rear tire becoming too hot and melting, forcing the recent Port Royal winner to change said tire. Despite the setback, Double D returned and rallied back for a top-ten.
The following evening at BAPS Motor Speedway, Danny Dietrich raced on to finish fourth in the $5,000-to-win program, securing the position with a final lap pass over Posse rival, Freddie Rahmer. The eventual top-ten was Dietrich’s 14th of the season, 13 of which occurring within the top-five.
“This team…they never give up and I’m very much grateful for that,” Dietrich explained. “We have to shake off this bad luck eventually. It seems to be following us around, but if we’re going to turn things around and get back to the front, it may as well be when the Outlaws are in town.”
