2022 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Sixth | 5226 points [164 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet]

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (July 18, 2022) – Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing put together a fantastic string of results during their five-race campaign through the Buckeye State, actually opening the week with a runner-up finish in Attica Raceway Park’s annual Brad Doty Classic on Tuesday, July 12, then capping the week with another runner-up result in Eldora Speedway’s highly sought after, $175,000-to-win Kings Royal on Saturday, July 16.

Missing a sixth Kings Royal crown by less than three seconds, Schatz’ march toward the front commenced from the inside of row four, hustling into second by lap 32 of 40 and nearly taking command. Unfortunately, eventual winner, Brent Marks, would slip off into the distance forcing the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion to settle into second.

In just as impressive fashion, Schatz’ rally to second at Attica Raceway Park commenced from row five, eventually closing in on race leader, Kyle Larson, before opening an epic battle in traffic. Despite showing Larson his nose on multiple occasions, the NASCAR champion held strong. Schatz’ performance also earned the Fargo, North Dakota, native the evening’s Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions.

In addition, Schatz was seventh in Eldora’s Jokers Wild, tenth in the $100,000-to-win Historical Big One, and eighth in the Knight Before the Kings Royal.

“The strides we’ve made with the Ford have been incredible lately,” Schatz admitted. “To be competing at the end, where we’ve struggled lately, I think is a great sign for this team. We’ll keep building on this and hope to get another World of Outlaws win soon.”
