FAST logofast weekend wrap-up: henry outduels andrews for fast victory at fremont; andrews moves into second behind mintz in fast points

MAUMEE, OH (5-12-13) by Scott Porter – F.A.S.T. Public Relations

The Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title presented by KS Sales & Service returned to action in Northern Ohio. Yet another soggy Friday afternoon washed out the fifth event (second F.A.S.T. event) of 2013 at Attica Raceway Park. However, a cold, wet forecast didn’t deter Fremont Speedway promoter Rich Farmer from swinging open his gates to faithful fans on Saturday night.

Fans in attendance were treated to a Jim-dandy of a feature event at “The Track That Action Built.” The top eight starting positions were determined by “King of the Hill” match races, which paired drivers in a bracket format of two-car, two-lap dashes. In the finals for the 410 sprints it was Cap Henry and Chris Andrews slugging it out around the 1/3-mile clay oval. The pair raced inches apart from one another and ultimately it was Chris Andrews aboard the Burmeister Racing #16 earning the pole position. The King of the Hill finale was ultimately a prelude for the feature event, where Andrews and Henry would resume their furious battle in lap traffic. The final five laps left fans talking about the near misses as they left the track after Henry held off Andrews’ final attempts going on to win his first career feature win at Fremont Speedway.

The second place finish for Andrews vaulted him up three positions in the F.A.S.T. Kistler Cup point standings and he now rests just 30-points back of Craig Mintz. Mintz, the 2009 Fremont/Attica Sprint Title Champion, overcame a rough night in which the Reel-Geese Decoys, Ti22 Performance #09 had to use the B-Main in order to transfer into the feature. Mintz would charge from his 13th starting position to escape the night with an 8th place run. Cole Duncan moved into third place in points just 10-points back of Andrews. Brian Smith and Byron Reed both dropped two spots in points and round out the top-5.

The JLH General Contractors F.A.S.T. 305 Championship Series were also in action at the 1/3-mile Fremont clay oval. One of the hottest sprint car drivers in the country continued his winning ways as Bradner, Ohio’s Nate Dussel picked up his first F.A.S.T. 305 feature win of the season and his fifth feature win of the year. This win jumped Dussel into second place in the championship hunt just 9-markers back of John Ivy who finished in second on Saturday. Bobby Clark dropped to third, but just 12-points out of the lead. Jordan Ryan moved into fourth place thanks to his podium finish, while Dustin Dinan rounds out the top-5.

The Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title will be back in action on Friday, May 17th with the Eric Phillips 25th Anniversary Classic at Attica Raceway Park. During their silver season, Attica’s John Bores & Rex LeJeune will honor Eric Philips, the track’s first promoter in 1988, by running twin features for the F.A.S.T. 410 Sprints with each consisting of 25-laps and both paying out $2,500 to win ($250 to start). The first feature event will award full F.A.S.T. championship points, while the second will be for the cash and glory.

Racing moves onto Fremont Speedway on Saturday, May 18th with Kids Race Into Summer Night. Track promoter Rich Farmer will be distributing tickets to schools around the surrounding counties near Fremont Speedway.

The JLH General Contractors F.A.S.T. 305 Championship Series goes on a hiatus until Friday, June 7th and Saturday, June 8th.
