Fab Four Racing heats up as Action-Packed June draws near
Sarver, PA (May 28, 2014) With four rounds of Fab Four Racing in the books, the Budweiser Point standings are starting to take shape as the busiest and most exciting month of the season draws near. But before we embark on June’s schedule of events, this Friday, May 30 will see the Precise Racing Products DIRTcar Late Models taking center stage after a thrilling feature last Friday Night. Mike Pegher Jr. wheeled the iconic #1 Cochran Late Model to victory after a thrilling five-car battle for the lead with John Garvin Jr., Russ King, Alex Ferree and World of Outlaws Late Model star Chub Frank. To be fair, most of the race was another duel between Pegher and Garvin, but a late race caution brought the others into the fold creating what was widely regarded as the best race of the season to date.
Mat Williamson also picked up his first win of the season while defending his 2013 Track Championship in the Diehl Auto Group DIRTcar Northeast Big Block Modifieds while Rich Grossman and a throng of employees and their families watched on from the hospitality area in the press box. All Star Danny Holtgraver picked up his second win of the season in the Peoples TWP DIRTcar Sprints before making his way to Fremont Speedway in Ohio for a Memorial Day weekend doubleheader with the All Star Circuit of Champions. Chris Schneider scored his 21st career victory in the ultra-competitive Millerstown Pic-A-Part DIRTcar Sportsman division in Terry Young’s #28Y which Terry himself drove to victory on Opening Night.
Entering round five of Fab Four Racing, Carl Bowser (Peoples TWP Sprints), Alex Ferree (Precise Lates) and Corey McPherson (Pic-A-Part Sportsman) lead their respective divisions in the Budweiser Point Standings, while father-son duo Rex King Sr. & Jr. share the top spot in the Diehl Mods.
Of the Bud Points leaders, only Carl Bowser has a commanding lead; 26 points over Brandon Matus and Jack Sodeman Jr. who are tied for second. Defending Track Champion Alex Ferree leads two-time feature winner in 2014 Russ King by just one point. “Bandit” and “Cooter” King lead Dr. Brad Rapp by just six points and “Double Duty” Dave Murdick by 11 points. Two-Time Defending Track Champion Corey McPherson leads Jim Fosnaught and Terry Young by a single point and fourth place Rob Shook by just six.
This Friday night is Trophy Girl Reunion Night as we welcome former back former trophy girls of the past. Mandy Golec brought the position back to life in 2008, but there is a deep and rich history that dates back decades and generations!
Then after this Friday, June starts simply enough with another round of Fab Four Racing on Friday, June 6 as we pay tribute to our local heroes that serve both the speedway and our communities with Fire, Police & EMS Night. All of those who serve will be admitted for half price, just $7 with proper identification. But business really picks up the following week on June 13 for Holiday Races with Fireworks on #1 Cochran Fan Appreciation Night. The following Friday, June 20 is the always exciting Mid-Season Championships as every division competes for Track Provisionals for marquee events later in the season.
And then speaking of marquee events, they don’t come any bigger than the 8th Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com weekend to close the month on Thursday-Friday-Saturday, June 26-27-28. It’s hard to believe that we are just four weeks away from Western PA’s biggest race weekend of the summer, but reserved seats are selling fast and include FREE pit pass upgrades for Thursday & Friday Nights as well as priority access to Saturday afternoon’s autograph session with every driver in competition – a Firecracker tradition – all for just $69!
