FINAL NIGHT OF “MID-ATLANTIC TRIPLE CROWN” AT THE ROCK CANCELLED; MIKE PEGHER TAKES CROWN; SOLID WEEKEND FOR SWEENEY RUSH SERIES
June 23, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Cumberland, MD)…After two great nights to kick off the RainEater Wiper Blades “Mid-Atlantic Triple Crown” for the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSHDirt Late Model Touring Series, Sunday’s event at The Rock – Allegany County Speedway was cancelled. After discussions with all concerned parties, it was decided that it was in the best interest of all to cancel the night’s racing program.

A total of 34 different cars from Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New York, Maryland, Delaware, and Ontario, Canada participated in the first two nights, which was swept by Mike Pegher, Jr. It was quite a weekend for the Wexford, Pa. driver as he captured the 100th and 101st wins of his racing career as he garnered over $4,000 in cash in addition to contingencies. Pegher received a huge trophy cup and the TurboStart 16-Volt Racing Battery for winning the overall weekend point title.

The Sweeney Touring Series will be off until the two-day “Off with the Tops” on July 5-6 presented once again by RainEater Wiper Blades. Lernerville Speedway will host their first RUSH-sanctioned event on the season on the Friday night, and Sharon will have a $2,000 to-win show in addition to the Sweeney GM 604 engine giveaway on the Saturday portion. The topless events will coincide with the BOSS non-wing Sprint Car Series!

It was also a successful weekend in Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Weekly Series action as McKean County Raceway, Sharon Speedway, and Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway all had strong car counts and produced new winners including Adam Sixt (MCR), Matt Latta (Sharon), and Tommy Schirnhofer, Jr. (PPMS). Sharon had their highest Weekly car count of the season and McKean had their second highest. Of course Roaring Knob had their highest car count of the year in Saturday’s Tour event. After being idle this past weekend, Sweeney Weekly Series northern tracks, Bradford Speedway and Allegheny Mountain Raceway, will return to action this coming weekend.
