Gregg Satterlee Claims $5,106 at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway’s ‘Red Miley Rumble’

Imperial, PA (August 17, 2013) Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, PA captured his fifth career NDRL’s United Late Model Series (ULMS) win at the 7th annual ‘Red Miley Rumble’ at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, PA. Satterlee inherited the lead after South Park, PA’s Keith Barbara on lap 21 when Barbara broke a rear brake caliper forcing him pit-side.

Alex Ferree and National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Lynn Geisler led the stacked 25 car field to the green flag with Ferree jumping out to the lead while Barbara, who started third, made his way past Geisler out of turn two. Ferree went on to lead lap one before the events first caution was displayed on lap one for Kari Gasser who spun in turns one and two. As the caution flew, Seaford, Delaware’s Austin Hubbard spun down the backstretch and slammed hard into the yuke tires at the pit opening on the inside of the speedway. The incident brought out the red flag as Hubbard experience discomfort in his neck and leg. Austin was transported to a Pittsburgh hospital with a concussion and some bumps and bruises but is otherwise okay after being released from the hospital early Sunday morning.

When racing resumed Ferree continued to lead with Barbara in tow while seventh starting Satterlee battled with defending PPMS champion Mike Norris for third. By lap six, Geisler joined the Satterlee/Norris battle while Ferree stretched his lead out to about a straightaway over the field. Satterlee took over the third position by lap 10 and set his sights on Barbara.

Barbara and Satterlee picked up the pace and began reeling in Ferree and on lap 15, made the pass for the lead. Before Barbara completed a lap as leader, the second caution flew for Steve Baker after he clipped the outside wall and slowed in turns one and two putting Ferree back into the lead position. When the green flag dropped again, Barbara dove to the inside of Ferree heading into turn one and grabbed the lead as the field came out of turn two.

While racing continued, Barbara lead with Satterlee, Geisler, and Jared Miley all making their way past early leader Ferree. On lap 21, Barbara had a solid lead before slowing coming out of turn four with a broken right rear caliper giving the lead to Satterlee. Barbara was able to make his way around ‘Dirt’s Monster Half Mile’ and into the pits without bringing out the caution. Geisler stayed on the rear deck-lid of Satterlee waiting for the youngster to make a mistake but Satterlee was able to inch away a little more with every passing lap.

Just after the halfway point lapped traffic became an issue for the leaders and Satterlee was able to scramble through the traffic while Geisler was stuck behind a three-wide battle for position. Geisler got a break on lap 41 as the caution flew for Jim Rasey whos left rear wheel came off the car sending Rasey’s mount into a spin on the backstretch.

The field was restacked in their Delaware style restart with Satterlee continuing to lead while defending ULMS Champion Boom Briggs made his way from his ninth starting position into second moving Geisler back to third. Briggs couldn’t mount a serious challenge for the lead as Satterlee went on to win his first ‘Red Miley Rumble’ followed by Briggsin second, Geisler in third, tenth starting Mason Zeigler in fourth, and Michael Norris rounding out the top-five. Ada, OH’s Jon Henry finished sixth followed by Jared Miley, Michael Davis, Ben Miley, and Alex Ferree in tenth.
