CHICORA, Pa. (August 9, 2021) – Another Sharon Speedway visit resulted in another top-five outcome for Chicora, Pennsylvania’s George Hobaugh, this time scoring a podium finish, leading laps in the process, during a $3,000-to-win open wheel appearance on Saturday, August 7.

Hobaugh, aboard the Krill Recycling, Laskowski Plumbing, Ridgeview Security, Hobaugh’s Auto Parts, Colliers Custom Kitchen and Bath, No. 40 sprint car, started third on the Sharon grid and battled within podium range the entire 30-lap distance, following race-long leader Darren Pifer for the first 20 circuits. Unfortunately for Pifer, his campaign at the front of the field would come to a halt on lap 21 allowing Hobaugh to inherit the top spot. Suspension damage was the culprit, brought to life after Pifer made contact with the outside retaining wall on lap 18.

Despite his attempt to outrun his fellow frontrunners for a second Sharon Speedway win of 2021, Hobaugh was eventually forced to surrender the lead to first-time winner Carl Bowser, who took command officially on lap 23; Hobaugh held on to finish second.

A Sunday night visit to Tri-City Raceway Park in Franklin, Pennsylvania, resulted in Hobaugh’s second top-ten in just as many days; he started seventh and finished in the exact same position.

“We were close, but not close enough. We’ve been close at Sharon a lot this season. It’s hard to be unhappy about podium finishes, but we know we are good enough to win any time we pull into that place,” Hobaugh said, who earned a Sharon Speedway victory on May 15. “I want to thank everyone who helps make all of this possible. We have a lot of great partners and we wouldn’t be able to do any of this without their support. We’ll do what we can to get them a win at Sharon next weekend.”

George Hobaugh and Hobaugh Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with another round of action in Western Pennsylvania, this time returning to Lernerville Speedway on Friday, August 13, then making the tow to Sharon Speedway on Saturday, August 14. Like the August 7 program, Saturday’s visit to Sharon will award a $3,000 top prize.
