CHICORA, Pa. (June 14, 2021) – After kicking-off the weekend with a podium performance at Lernerville Speedway on Friday, June 11, finishing third during a 25-lap weekly contest, Chicora, Pennsylvania’s George Hobaugh decided to make the tow to the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace” on Saturday and rejoin the infamous Pennsylvania Posse. The decision to travel east nearly doubled his weekend top-five output, only to be denied by a parts hiccup.
While battling for a top-five position, Hobaugh’s muffler broke away from the header forcing the pilot of the Krill Recycling, Laskowski Plumbing, Ridgeview Security, Hobaugh’s Auto Parts, Colliers Custom Kitchen and Bath, No. 40 sprint car to make contact with the loose part. The incidental contact caused a left-rear tire puncture forcing Hobaugh to retire; there were only four laps remaining.
Hobaugh started from the front row and challenged for the lead early; he faded to fourth before the muffler incident occurred.
“We were definitely a top-five car at Port Royal on Saturday. Just dumb luck I guess, but you’ll have that. We’ll shake it off and try again tomorrow at Sharon,” George Hobaugh said, who owns one Sharon Speedway victory thus far in 2021. “We’re excited to race with the All Stars again. It’s going to be a tough field, but we’re confident in our notebook and we’re going to do whatever we can to put ourselves in solid positions all night and hopefully get a dash slot. That’s the key. It’s tough to rebound from the back with these guys. You have to put the whole night together.”
George Hobaugh and Hobaugh Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with an Ohio Sprint Speedweek appearance at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on Tuesday, June 15. Featuring Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions, round four of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek agenda will award a $6,000 top prize.
