Bryan Hulbert – Peoria, Arizona (November 16, 2012) Night two of the 45th annual FVP Western World Championships presented by Sands Chevrolet saw races for the ages as local favorite Casey Shuman upset two time Western World Champion Brady Bacon for the win in the ASCS Non-Wing Canyon Region A-Feature while Jason Johnson grabbed his fourteenth win of 2012 and in doing so clinched the 2012 Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV National Championship.

Taking his first win since a prelim victory a month ago at the Short Track Nationals, Jason Johnson battled past Brian Brown following a late race caution to grab the win on night two of the 45th FVP Western World Championships presented by Sands Chevrolet.
Working to the green, Brian Brown would jump the early advantage before a complete restart was called far as Lance Norick spun exiting turn two, collecting Lucas Wolfe and sending Shawn Petersen flipping for the second time in one night. All three drivers retired to the pits.
The second start would see a single lap completed before Gary Wright slid off the top of turn two and tagged the wall bringing Wright’s night to an end.
Pulling the field around single file for the restart, the FVP / Casey’s General Store No. 21 would begin pulling to a sizable advantage as Justin Henderson worked to hold off the Oil Medics No. 18 of Tony Bruce Jr.
Getting the pass on lap four, Bruce would soon have his hands full as Jason Johnson worked into the picture. Battling back and forth for a pair of laps, Johnson would wheel the MVT No. 41 into the runner up spot on lap ten.
With slower traffic light around the leader, Jason Johnson would begin running down a nearly 2.5 second disadvantage. With both drivers working top to bottom on the Canyon Speedway Park, Johnson would pull to within a half second of Brown with elven laps to run.
Coming around to complete lap fifteen, the fight was on for the race lead. As the field worked to nine laps to go however, the caution lights blinked on as Justin Henderson rolled to a stop in turn four.
Knowing know that Jason Johnson was on his back bumper, Brian Brown began running defense. Protecting the bottom line, Brown would fight valiantly but it would be Jason Johnson getting the winning pass on the twentieth circuit. Brian Brown crossed second with Tony Bruce Jr. taking the last podium step. Jumping behind the wheel of the Minks Motorsports No. 1, Christopher Bell ran to a fourth place finish with Jeff Swindell completing the top five.
Johnny Herrera crossed sixth with Seth Bergman coming from fifteenth to seventh. Danny Lasoski grabbed the final transfer spot into Saturday’s A-Feature with Cole Wood and Rick Ziehl rounding out the top ten.
Qualifier wins belonged to Justin Henderson and Brian Brown. Heat Races were won by Cole Wood, Lance Norick, and Brian Brown.

In a battle that brought fans to the feet, local favorite Casey Shuman piloted the Jesse Hockett Racing No. 77x to victory. Starting side by side with Brady Bacon in row one, Shuman would grace the outside groove.
Battling into the lead thought the first two turns, the No. 77x began working away from Mike Bonneau who grabbed second from Brady Bacon on the start before the Infinity Shocks No. 99 bolted back into the runner up spot before a caution with twenty-three laps to run.
Resuming with Brady Bacon on his back bumper, Casey Shuman carefully worked the inside line. Never falling more than three tenths of a second behind even when slower traffic presented Bacon the opportunity to take over the top spot.
Side by side with the back of the field, both drivers had to vacate the inside groove to keep pace with one another going three and four wide with under ten laps remaining with Shuman never relinquishing the top spot.
Working out of slower traffic, the pair continued their battle before the red flag waved for the No. 6b of Bryan Swinehart who flipped violently off the top of turn four. Swinehart was unharmed.
Restarting with five laps to run, neither driver would let any distance come between them with Bacon finally moving to the high line to make a final lap attempt, laying down the fastest lap of the race but it was not enough to take the win from Casey Shuman. Bacon crossed the line second with Mike Martin coming from eighth to third. Mike Spencer and Mike Bonneau making up the top five.
Dave Darland marched from twelfth to sixth with Jerry Coons Jr., Kyle Hirst, Shane Cottle, and Dustin Morgan rounding out the top ten.
Qualifiers were won by Mike Spencer and Brady Bacon. Heat race wins belonged to Dustin Morgan, Ronnie Clark, and Brady Bacon.
