Marks Captures Two Top 10s in Double Duty at Lincoln Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (July 15, 2013) – For the first time in a long time Brent Marks pulled double duty.

After Friday’s event at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., was cancelled because of the weather, Marks competed in both the 410 and 358 classes on Saturday at Lincoln Speedway.

“It was something different and something else to do that night, which made it fun for me,” said Marks, who was filling in for his cousin in the 358 class. “It’s been awhile since I’ve got to run more than one division in a night. It brought back some childhood memories from when I started racing.”

Marks advanced a half-dozen positions in each feature to record a top five in his first career 358 feature and his 32nd top-10 finish of the year in the 410 main event.

It didn’t start as well in the 410 heat race after he drew a high number during the pill draw to start seventh in his heat.

“The first lap a couple of cars got tangled up in (turns) three and four,” he said. “We got into it and knocked the nose wing off. We had to restart at the back. I couldn’t make anything happen to get in the invert.”

Marks rallied to finish fifth and advance to the main event, but was one position out of earning a spot in the redraw. He started the feature on the inside of the eighth row.

“We just overadjusted the race car in the feature,” he said. “We got as high as seventh or eighth and fell back at the end a little bit. It wasn’t that great of a run for us. I just couldn’t do anything with it. I just salvaged a top-10 finish there in the 410.”

After maneuvering from fourth to third in his 358 heat race, Marks started that feature on the outside of the fifth row.

“That was pretty fun,” he said. “It was my first time in a 358. I went from 600 micro sprints to 410s. I was just getting comfortable to a different car. It was something different and something else to do that night, which made it fun for me.

“We didn’t have a winning car, but it was a decent run for the first time in that car. I just wanted to show up and have some fun and that’s what we did.”

Marks finished fourth, which was his 17th top five of the season.

He is scheduled to compete with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., on Tuesday for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup. It will be his first time at the track since 2010 and just his second visit overall.

Marks will then race on Thursday at Lincoln Speedway before the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series doubleheader on Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway for the Summer Nationals.
