Martin Means ‘Business’ As Season Reaches Halfway Mark

Ringgold, PA (July 18, 2013) By many accounts, Joe Martin is having what most would consider to be an excellent season: 23 starts, 20 Top Ten’s, and an extraordinary 15 Top Five finishes. This all sounds great, but for Martin, the fact that he has visited Victory Lane only once so far in 2013 is quite frustrating. “We’ve been close, but not close enough” stated the young Martin, who is now in his fifth season behind the wheel. “It’s been very frustrating. We’ve come in second, seven times now. It’s not that we’re having a bad season, not by any means; it’s just a hard pill to swallow when I know how hard this team works each week, with the ultimate goal of picking up some wins. That is our focus.”

Focused; That is certainly the one word that anyone who knows Joe might use to describe him, which is likely how he inherited “The Business” as a nickname. After coming off of a six-win season in 2012, Martin expected to keep that momentum rolling into 2013. Equipped with a new #55 Wylie Race car for this season, paired with a freshened power-plant from Ingram Racing Engines, Joe and his crew have raced in four different states and at 12 different tracks so far in 2013. The highlight of which has been his $1,000 victory on June 1 at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway (PPMS).

For Joe and crew, their largest set of ups and downs occurred at McKean County Raceway on June 14. The $2,500-To-Win, RUSH Dirt Late Model Series event is one that Martin will not soon to forget. When asked about it, Martin quipped “Well it was going quite well until I hit the wall!!” While leading the event by a significant margin and just a few laps to go, the #55 machine appeared to be heading towards certain triumph that evening. It all changed when, as Joe describes “Coming out of one, I didn’t hit my mark, got way too high, and it was just me and the wall.” The result of which was a discouraging 20th place finish, JM2 Motorsports’ worst finish this season.

“My program has improved year on year since I started racing and 2013 is no different. It just doesn’t look that way in the win column” he stated. With seven, second place finishes, Joe and crew have proven they are right where they need to be. “It’s a long season, we’re only half way into it, and are going to carry this momentum forward…right into the winner’s circle” Martin said with a smile on his face.

Joe and the entire JM2 Motorsports crew will be getting down to business this weekend at Sharon Speedway on Saturday evening, July 20. The RUSH Late Model Touring Series will visit the 3/8 mile oval for a $2,000-To-Win event. Visit SharonSpeedway.com and RUSHLateModels.com for more details.
