FOREST, Ohio (November 7, 2022) – The annual Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, California, is an open wheel staple on the West Coast, and for the first time in his storied career, Pleasant Hill, Ohio’s Matt Westfall was elbows-up in the prestigious program, joining the USAC National Sprint Cars for their final event of the 2022 season.

Westfall, ace of Ray Marshall’s all too familiar Bumblebee Express No. 33M, completed the three-day affair better than any Perris Auto Speedway rookie should, earning back-to-back top-ten scores in the final two nights of competition including a ninth-place outcome in the $20,000-to-win finale on Saturday, November 5. A third-place finish in Westfall’s respective qualifier secured his A-Main starting position.

Just one night prior, Westfall finished seventh, kicking off the Oval Nationals preliminary with the seventh-fastest qualifying time of 38 entries, racing on to finish fourth in his respective heat race.

Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports opened Perris Auto Speedway’s Oval Nationals with a 12th-place performance on Thursday, November 3.

With the USAC schedule now complete, Westfall will officially conclude the season seventh in the national standings, padded by a recent podium finish at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Arizona.

“What a trip west…we enjoyed ourselves and we were able to put together two great weekends. Can’t thank Ray Marshall enough for the opportunity to do this. He’s the backbone of this operation and it’s his love for the sport that has allowed all of us to be a part of it,” said Westfall, a six-time winner in 2022. “We’ll head into the off season with plenty of momentum on our side. I’m already excited to see what the future brings.”

As mentioned, Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports will head into the off season with six victories to their credit, most recently capturing a Gas City I-69 Speedway Fall Festival of Speed sweep on October 21-22.
