Mercer

Mercer, PA (March 4, 2013): The staff and management of Mercer Raceway Park began counting down the days until the Chiller Thriller, which will take place on March 30, featuring the ULMS Super Late Models, the UEMS Modifieds, and the FASTRAK Late Models . But, now, the rest of the racing community can get a glimpse of what the 2013 season has in store. The Shanango Valley Mall will play host to the track’s annual car show on March 8-10.

Leading the way will be the defending champion of the Approved Toilet Rentals Sprint Car division, Eric Williams. The driver from nearby Greenville thrilled the fans with his exciting style and he’s looking for more opportunities to display his keen sense of humor in the customary post-race interviews held in victory lane.

Third generation driver Adam Kekich will also have his 410 Sprint Car on display. He owns one career victory at the track that was so good to his grandfather, Paul “Putsy” Kekich, and his dad, Mike Kekich.

The Ti22 Outlaw Sprint Warriors will have plenty of representation at the show. In addition to the car of 2012 Rookie of the Year, C.J. Jones, Jimmy Morris, Jacob Lagastee and Harold Braden, Jr. will have have their machines on hand.

One of Mercer’s favorite sons, Mike Lutz, will have his 360 Sprint on display. While Mike will be in action with the Jimmy Chappel number 8 410 Sprinter most weekends, he will climb aboard his own car to defend the turf against the Patriot Sprints, which will roll into town on June 1.

The Guidace racing team of Frank and his daughter, Makayla, will have their Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds on display. Fans will also get their first views of Frank’s brand new Big Block Modified, which he will campaign against the BRP Modified Tour on August 17, as well at other area venues. They will also see, for the first time, the 358 Modified of Brandon Johnston, who will be doing double duty at the track.

Johnston, a regular in the Precise Racing Products Stock Cars for several seasons, will also have his familiar Stocker on hand. Joining him at the show and on the track will be Dan McEwen.

Brandon Blackshear is another area racer moving up in the ranks. He will have his new FASTRAK Late Model on display. He will be on the track, of course, on March 30. The FASTRAK Late Models will make a return appearance on April 20.

Many of the drivers who compete each Saturday night got their starts in Go Karts, so it is only fitting that the annual car show will include a Kart or two. Scott Bonard will have his Kart on display and, who knows, some day soon, he may have a big car to unveil.

After the mall show, the cars will go back to their respective shops for any final adjustments that may be required for the 2013 season.

The Mercer Raceway Park schedule has a little something for every racing fan. It can be viewed at the track’s website, www.mercerracewaypark.com. Economical ticket packages can still be purchased by March 10, by contacting the track office at 724-662-1310.
