FREMONT, Ohio (August 5, 2019) – They say the first win is always the toughest to achieve, but the ‘Texas Traveler’ T.J. Michael no longer has to live under the weight of that cliche’.

For the first time in his career, Plano, Texas’ T.J. Michael is a 410 sprint car winner, doing so in dramatic fashion during Waynesfield Raceway Park’s Rick Ferkel Classic on Friday, August 2. The victory, a FAST Series triumph, was solidified during the closing circuits, as Michael took advantage of a mishap involving the top-two with three laps remaining. Avoiding the chaos, Michael inherited the top spot, still forced to fend off DJ Foos, Cap Henry and Lee Jacobs. The ‘Texas Traveler’ prevailed and scored the $5,000 payday.

Michael started second on the feature grid, earning his way into the 30-lapper by winning his respective heat race.

Impressive enough, Michael capped his weekend with a runner-up finish during another round of FAST Series action at Wayne County Speedway on Saturday, August 3. A last-ditch effort slider nearly earned Michael a second consecutive Series victory, but Dean Jacobs held strong.

“What a weekend. I don’t think it really sunk in yet,” T.J. Michael said, driver of the Michael Motorsports/Advanced Architectural Stone/Crown Battery/Fremont Fence Company/Pro-Tech Services/Wood Heating and Air Conditioning/Kear’s Speed Shop/Wings Unlimited/Soul Fully Rooted/Big D’s Pizza/No. 8M sprint car. “My team gave me a great race car all weekend. They worked their tails off to get me to this point and I appreciate everything that they do for me. This feels amazing. I’ve been working for this since I started and I’m confident we can get it done again soon. We were close again on Saturday, so that just goes to show what we are capable of doing. We’ve been close at Wayne County Speedway a lot. We are well overdue.”

Michael will take a weekend off before returning to sprint car competition. The Plano, Texas-native, who spends his summer months in Fremont, Ohio, will celebrate his recent FAST Series triumph as a spectator in Knoxville, Iowa.
