MAUMEE, OH (5-7-13) by Scott Porter – F.A.S.T. Public Relations

With the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series invading “The Buckeye State” over the weekend the mighty 410 sprint car division was idle at both Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway. Several drivers of the Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title (F.A.S.T.) presented by KS Sales & Service took the opportunity to spend their downtime with family and friends; however, several did not sit idle over the weekend and raced around Ohio and Pennsylvania. After the short hiatus, the battle for the 2013 Kistler Cup will be re-ignited this weekend with a pair of events in Northern Ohio. Also returning to action will be the JLH General Contractors F.A.S.T. 305 Championship Series.

Things kick off this Friday, May 10th at Attica Raceway Park with “Scouts Night.” All Girl Scout, Boy Scout and Scout Leaders in uniform will get free admission into “Ohio’s Finest Racing” speed plant for an action packed night of racing. With just one F.A.S.T. event completed at Attica to date, it’s tough to claim that anyone in particular has an advantage at the 1/3-mile semi-banked oval. Craig Mintz, Byron Reed and Caleb Griffith (who claimed the UNOH 305/360 Challenge over this past weekend), have all showed signs of being contenders when the green flag flies. Brian Smith outran them all two weeks ago to become the only F.A.S.T. member to visit victory lane at either track (Tim Shaffer and Greg Wilson have won the other two events).

Fremont Speedway track promoter Rich Farmer will add a twist to the traditional format on Saturday, May 11th with “King of the Hill” competitions determining the first four rows of the feature event for both the 410 and 305 sprint cars. With this change the JLH General Contractors F.A.S.T. 305 Championship Series will also run one-lap qualifications. The top-8 fastest qualifiers that transfer out of their heats will run four rounds of two-car, two-lap “King of the Hill” races until one driver is victorious. The winner will have the option of picking either the inside or outside of the front row in their feature. The added twist will place a lot of emphasis on qualifying at “The Track That Action Built.”

2009 F.A.S.T. Champ Craig Mintz has been knocking on the door of his first feature win this season and his three podium finishes leaving the Mintz Motorsports #09 nothing to be disappointed in. With the help of a pair of runner-up finishes and a third place run, Mintz has a 34-point lead in the Kistler Cup point standings. Sitting in second place is Brian Smith who is off to a strong start with a win at Attica.  He will look to build on his current momentum.  Smith finished 5th at Lernervile Speedway this past weekend, and looks to chisel away at Mintz’s lead.  2010 F.A.S.T. Champion Byron Reed sits in fourth place just 6-markers back of Smith. Just 3-points back of Reed is Cole Duncan who looks to make his first ever run at the $10,000 to win F.A.S.T. championship. Chris Andrews, who drove in his first career non-wing event this past weekend and posted a respectable 5th place finish from his 22nd starting position, rounds out the top-5 in points.

Veteran John Ivy leads the JLH General Contractors F.A.S.T. 305 Championship Series points after being victorious in the only event contested so far. Fellow sprint car veteran Bobby Clark sits in second just 5-markers back, while Dustin Dinan holds down third place just 8-points back. One of the hottest 305 drivers in 2013 is Nate Dussel (three “open” feature wins) who sits in fourth, while Alvin Roepke rounds out the top-five.

FAST SERIES AND KS SALES & SERVICE ADD CASH BONUS TO ATTICA’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY CLASSIC: The Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title presented by KS Sales & Service will help celebrate the silver season at Attica Raceway Park in grand fashion with the running of the Eric Philips 25th Anniversary Classic on Friday, May 17th. Highlighting the night are twin features for the F.A.S.T. Series highlight the night with each consisting of 25-laps and both paying out $2,500 to win and $250 to start.

Only the first feature event for the 410 sprint cars will count towards the $10,000 season-ending championship for the Fremont/Attica Sprint Title. Cash and prestige will be on the line when the cars are pushed off for the second feature of the night. Details about the race format and more bonus cash will soon be released by Attica Raceway Park.

Bonus cash will be on the line for the 410 sprint car members of the Fremont/Attica Sprint Title thanks to money put up by the F.A.S.T. organization, as well as a generous donation by presenting sponsor KS Sales & Service. A $250 bonus will be up for grabs for whichever F.A.S.T. member posts the highest average finish during the pair of feature events. Also a $100 bonus will be available to the F.A.S.T. member with the second highest finishing average. Any ties will be broken by the driver sitting the highest in F.A.S.T. points after the first feature event on May 17th.

Also in competition will be the UMP DIRTcar Late Models and the 305 Sprint Cars racing without their front nose wings as a tribute to the “Econo Sprint” division that Eric Philips started. Thanks to Hoserville Ohio the 305 Sprint feature will pay $600 to win.
