Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will be the destination for all western PA sprint car and late model fans and enthusiasts this weekend; as the notorious ‘Tri-Star Pittsburgher’ at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway is set to begin Thursday night, September 15th, and end Saturday, September 17th. The three day race weekend will give out over $100,000 in prize money to seven different divisions that make up the famous event; including a $9,000 winner’s share over Friday and Saturday for the UFO/ULMS Super Late Model victors. Team Fully Injected will have plenty of representatives at the monster half-mile this weekend; as teammates in the 410 sprint cars, super late models, and pro late models, will all be in competition during some point of the weekend. Thursday night, September 15th, will only consist of a practice session for all divisions.
The 410 sprint cars will be a part of the Saturday night program during this weekend’s ‘Pittsburgher.’ The sprint car appearance will be highlighted with a 22 lap feature event; paying $2,200 to the winner and $250 to start. A solid roster of Team Fully Injected sprint pilots are expected to be in competition this weekend. The defending winner in the sprint portion of the Pittsburgher, Danny Holtgraver, will not be in attendance this weekend; as All-Star Circuit of Champions ‘Ohio Region’ commitments have him scheduled to race at Fremont Speedway on Friday and Saturday.
The Super Late Model portion of the “Pittsburgher” weekend will take up both Friday and Saturday night; as two full programs for the UFO/ULMS sanctioned super late models will fill the Friday and Saturday event schedule. On Friday night, the unsanctioned event will pay $2,00o to the winner of the 33 lap i-Monster feature. Saturday night’s 66 lap feature for the UFO/ULMS super lates will pay $7,000 to the winner and $400 to start. Fully Injected’s Jared Miley is expected to be participating in all three days of the ‘Tri-Star Pittsburgher’; hoping to end a stretch of bad luck at what is considered his home track. More on Miley this week.
The Pro Late Model division will be highlighted with a 30 lap championship feature event on Saturday night, September 17th. Their preliminary action, which consists of heat races and a possible consolation, will take place on Friday night, September 16th. Fully Injected Pro late competitor, Mike Reft, plans on attending the three day event in hopes of finding victory lane. More on Reft and the entire late model team later this week.
