Sarver PA’s Michael Norris picked up his 3rd feature of the season in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar Super Late Models. Denton Boyer grabbed the lead at the start and led the first two laps, when Kyle Lukon took over on lap 3. Lukon was looking for his second win of the night, when a yellow came out on lap 7 for Jim Stephens, who banged the back straight wall, after another car kicked water up from the infield. Stephens was thru for the night. While on the yellow, it was discovered Lukon was dragging something, and was done for the night. This put Norris (who charged from 10th) out front and from that point the race was over as Norris built up a big lead in the remaining green flag laps. John Mollick had his best run of the season in second as did third finishing Brandon Burgoon. Daryl Charlier was fourth, while Alex Ferree nipped Denton Boyer for fifth. Dusty Hamrick had a solid 7th in only his second ever appearance at the track, followed by Ben Miley, Rick Armstrong and newcomer Lance Smith. Heats went to Daryl Charlier and Tommy Beck. Norris picked up the Awesome Hard Charger award while Hamrick was the K&N Performer of the race.
The Brougher’s Machine Shop Fastrak Crate Lates had Burgettstown PA’s Kyle Lukon add another win to his season total by picking up the 20 lap main in exciting fashion. Mike Reft grabbed the lead at the start and led the first 17 laps over Justin Lamb, while an intense battle was going on for 3-7 behind. On lap 17 Tyler Atkinson hit the back straight wall while being lapped bringing out the races first caution. On the restart, Colton Flinner (driving a new car owned by Ken Chernik), got by Lamb, and got beside Reft, and the pair tangled, allowing Lamb to take the lead and shuffled Reft back to fifth. The next lap Flinner slowed bringing out the yellow, and his night was over with a broken driveshaft. The restart had Lamb leading Lukon. Lukon got the jump and rolled to the win. It was his 4th of the season. Lamb had his best run of the season in second, with Toby Massie also having his best run of the year in third, followed by Steve Beatty, Nico Dabecco, Laura Lukon, Chuck Medved, Reft, Scott Schempp, and Brian Goebel. The heats fell to Tom Schirnhofer Jr., and Nico Dabecco. The K&N Performer was Chuck Medved
In the BOSS Sprints special, Youngstown OH’s Jack Sodeman Jr. picked up his second PPMS feature in a row, and second BOSS win of the season. Andre Layfield, who won the earlier BOSS race this season at PPMS, grabbed the lead at the start and led the first 4 laps until the yellow came for a tangle in turn three. On the restart, Layfield was back out front, only to spin coming of turn four, bringing out the yellow, and putting Layfield to the rear. This put Jack Sodeman Jr. in the top spot followed by Mark Cassella. Sodeman led the next 11 laps, when the red came out when Adam Miller and Lewie Christian tangled, and Christian flipped. He was OK Sodeman jumped out on the restart and opened up a lead over Cassella until lap 21 when Francis Sesco tagged the wall in three and four leaving a four lap dash to the checker. Sodeman was up to the task, and held off Cassella for the win. He was the first repeat winner in the series in ten races. Cassella was second followed by Steve Irwin, Tony Beaber, with Andre Layfield rolling back up to fifth from the tail. Dallas Hewitt was sixth followed by Dustin Smith, Mike Miller, Derrick Hastings, and Chuck Wilson. The four heats for the 29 cars on hand saw Mark Cassella, Andre Layfield, Dallas Hewitt and Steve Irwin pick up the victories. Tony Beaber won the B-Main. Charlie Cornelius became the second ever car to flip out of the ballpark at PPMS, flipping out of turn one in the B-Main and ending up in the trees that line the access road. He was OK.
The Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Late Model Sportsman feature had Sarver PA’s Wayne Carbo pick up his 3rd win of 2012. Pat Hanley led the first lap, with Nick Kocuba taking over on lap 2. The next lap Carl Weidenhofer (driving the Huchko #60) flipped to bring out the red.t\ He was uninjured. On the restart Joey Koteles took over first. Koteles, who has been running well the past several week’s was looking strong and looking for his first PPMS win. His fine ride ended on lap 10, when he got a flat right rear and slowed bringing out the races last caution. Wayne Carbo took over first at this point, while a battle for second raged between Kocuba, Pat Weldon and Simmons. Simmons (who started last, due to losing a wheel in his heat) took over second on lap 14, but was not able to reel in Carbo. So at the checker, it was Carbo, Simmons, Kocuba, Weldon, Danny Rich (in the #18), Bob Egley, Gary Koteles (in the #13), Eric Piotrowski, Mitch Wattelet and Josh Langer. Gary Koteles was the K&N Performer of the race. The heats had Joey Koteles and Pat Weldon take the wins.
Fayette County racer Jonathon Hillman made his first start at PPMS a winning one in the Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stocks. Hillman, who usually runs on the asphalt at Motordrome took the lead on lap 3 from Gary Smith and led the remaining laps. Gary Smith was second followed by Christian Schneider, Jon Scott, Bernie Blair Jr., Chase Evans, and Don Black (the K&N Performer of the race).
The Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns had newcomer Nick Wiery, Niles, OH win his first feature in his first ever start. Wiery recovered after a tangle with 2012 point champ Logan Crewl to pick up the win. At the finish it was Wiery, O.B. Huff, Roman O’Neill, Logan Crewl and David Ostrander. Ostrander was also dubbed the K&N Performer of the race.
