Will 2012 track champion Chad Layton claim his first-ever Labor Day Classic crown?
The final sprint car event of the season at Port Royal will unfold when the make-up 61st annual Foss Jewelers Labor Day Classic is staged beginning at 6 pm next Saturday.
Also on the season finale card is the super sportsman along with a wild Demolition Derby to close out the night.
The make-up Labor Day Classic feature for sprint cars will be a 30-lap main event paying $4,000 to win. The race will include time trials and it will be an open tire event for the sprint cars.
Full programs of qualifying heat races will set the feature fields for both the sprints and the sportsman.
The super sportsman will compete in a 20-lap main.
A wild Demolition Derby will close out the night and the year.
The oval has celebrated a dozen different sprint car winners this season with the top checker-getter being Greg Hodnett, who has taken seven feature event victories.
The other multi-time winners have been newly crowned track titlist Chad Layton along with Lance Dewease and Blane Heimbach.
Single wins have gone to Dale Blaney, Frank Cozze, Doug Esh, Damion Gardner, Rick Lafferty, Ryan Taylor and Tyler Walker.
Esh’s victory came in the most recently contested Port Royal sprint car event back on September 8 when he claimed the 45th annual Tuscarora 50.
Russ Mitten won the only other show for the sportsman at the track this season, back on May 24.
October 13 pit gates will open at 3:30 pm with general admission gates opening at 4 and racing slated for 6 pm.
Adult general admission will be $15 with students ages 12 – 18 priced at JUST $5.
