PITTSBURGH, PA — Vince Laboon was finally able to “Kick in the Door” and score his career first Late Model Sportsman victory on Saturday night at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. In addition to Laboon, other winners were Jared Miley (Diehl of Robinson Super Late Models), Tommy Schirnhofer (Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro-Late Models), Christian Schneider (Miley BP Carwash Hobby Stocks) and Dylan Bolind (Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns). Josh Langer was victorious in the second installment of the Wacky Wheels Figure Eight Mania.
Brentwood, PA driver Vince Laboon has continued to improve since moving to the Late Model Sportsman Division in 2012 and he was able to score an impressive career first divisional victory tonight. The 15 lap non-stop event saw Laboon lead the entire distance to hold off veteran Nick Kocuba, Joey Koteles, Bill Robertson and Brian Huchko to score an emotional and very popular victory in his Loose Moose Saloon/Centerline Collision sponsored Monte Carlo.
Laboon and Huchko were the winners in Sportsman heat race action.
The Diehl of Robinson Super Late Model main event saw Davey Johnson and Brandon Burgoon lead the field to the green. Defending divisional champion Michael Norris lost the handle in turn two causing the caution to fly before the first lap had been completed. When green flag racing resumed, fourth place starter Jared Miley and Burgoon put on a “driving clinic” as the two battled for the top spot and raced side by side for the majority of the 25 lap event. Burgoon edged ahead to claim the lead on lap 17 but Miley edged him out on the next circuit and went on to score his third PPMS win of the season in the Brougher’s Machine Shop sponsored Rocket Chassis. Burgoon settled for the second spot with Steve Baker finishing in the third position. Norris worked his way through the field to pick up the fourth spot with Alex Ferree rounding out the top five.
Burgoon and J. Miley were victorious in the Late Model prelims. Veteran Lynn Geisler claimed the Awesome Signs Hard Charger Award as he advanced from the 14th spot and scored a sixth place finish in the feature event.
Lady racer Laura Lukon and Justin Lamb led the RUSH Pro-Late Model main event to the green with Lamb taking command. The event was slowed for two cautions, both of which happened on lap four. The first caution flew for Steve Lucas, who tagged the turn four wall and on the ensuing restart Ben Policz spun in turn three; when green flag racing resumed, Lamb and Lukon continued to battle for the top spot. Lamb finally gaining a bit of an edge to secure the top spot and he and Lukon began to distance themselves from the rest of the field. While Lamb and Lukon were battling, Tommy Schirnhofer was quietly working his way through the field from the twelfth starting spot. By lap eight Schirnhofer had worked his way to the fourth spot and then on the next circuit he passed Ron Hall to move into third. Schirnhofer was able to work his way around Lukon on lap 15 and got by Lamb on the next circuit. The third generation racer then went on to score his second consecutive Pro-Late victory. Lamb, Lukon, Colton Flinner and Kyle Lukon completed the top five.
Michael Reft and Kyle Lukon scored the Pro-Late heat race victories.
Christian Schneider cruised to his ninth victory of the season in the 12 lap Hobby Stock main event. Hannah Ramsey scored her best ever finish as the runner-up with Dan Black and Tyler Fox following.
Schneider also scored the heat race win.
Dylan Bolind continued to impress the crowd in the Imperial Heights Young Guns main event as the Imperial, PA teenager picked up his sixth feature win of the season. Bolind, started third in the event, took command on lap two and went on to defeat O.B. Huff, Karlee Kovacs, Roman O’Neill, Michael Jackson and Jonathan Miller.
