FOREST, Ohio (February 19, 2024) – It was a slow start to their 2024 campaign, but things hit high gear in a hurry, as Ray Marshall Motorsports and Matt Westfall raced on to highlight their first trip of the season with a top-ten at Ocala Speedway in Ocala, Florida, on Thursday, February 15, launching the USAC National Sprint Cars program with the 13th-quickest time (of 28 entries) and a heat race victory.
Finishing sixth officially, the top-ten outcome was not only the team’s first of the year, but the first of Ray Marshall’s final season as car owner, accomplished in just their fifth start of the 2024 season. In fact, Westfall and Marshall, former Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) champions and USAC feature winners, nearly matched their Thursday result on Friday (also at Ocala), but a leaky right rear put a quark in their luck.
The team’s right rear lost pressure on the final circuit forcing the Forest, Ohio-based open wheelers to surrender their top-ten running position; they were scored 16th.
Other Florida USAC results include finishing 18th and 17th at Ocala Speedway on February 9-10, and 16th and 17th in a Volusia Speedway Park doubleheader on February 13.
“It’s definitely a bitter-sweet deal to get the 2024 season underway. We’re ready for another year and we’re ready to chase wins, but knowing it’s Ray’s final season definitely makes it sad. We’re going to work as hard as we can to make every start count,” Westfall, ace of the Buckeye Machine Fabricators Inc, Hempy Water, DPI Ink, Wix Filters, Rod End Supply, Allstar Performance, No. 33M sprint car, said. “Hats off to this entire team. It’s never an easy trip to Florida, especially with a lot of racing in a short time span, but we came prepared and we’re ready to keep it going.”

Ray Marshall Motorsports and Matt Westfall Racing will continue their 2024 USAC National Sprint Cars campaign with a visit to Terre Haute Action Track in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Friday, April 5, followed by a stop at Red Hill Raceway in Sumner, Illinois, on Saturday, April 6.
