Sprints And Sportsman Open Williams Grove Speedway Season March 29
Williams Grove Speedway

Mechanicsburg – Williams Grove Speedway will try again to open its 2013 season this Friday night, March 29 at 7:30 pm.
On the racing card will be the 410 sprints and the super sportsman for an open wheel doubleheader.

Practice laps are slated for 7 pm.

The historic oval lost its first try at the lidlifter due to cold weather on March 22.

This week’s opener will be the first time the sportsman cars, traditionally the Saturday Night Series marquee division, have competed in a double with the sprints in recent memory at Williams Grove.

The 2013 Williams Grove Saturday Series season opener is slated for April 20 at 6:30 pm, featuring super sportsman, 358 late models and street stocks.

Last year, in the 410 sprint opener, Danny Dietrich took the win at Williams Grove.

Over the years, there has never been a season opener held on March 29, as the case is hoped to be this week at the track.

However there has been action at the track on that date.

Lynn Paxton scored on the date in 1981 as did Doug Wolfgang in 1987. Steve Smith Sr. took a victory in 1992 followed by Cris Eash in 1998.

Greg Hodnett, the reigning Lawrence Chevrolet Williams Grove Speedway 410 sprint track champion took the most recent March 29 event held back in 2002.

A full program of heat races and features for each division is on the agenda this week..

Hodnett has a pair of opening day wins to his credit, in both 2002 and 2004.

Opening ceremonies will be performed by the US Army Color Guard.
