Apollo, PA (October 27th, 2014) –  Third generation racer Sye Lynch, son of Lernerville Speedway great and former Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup champion, Ed Lynch Jr., officially launched his ‘410’ sprint car racing career during the recent weekend; competing in the DIRTcar Roundup ‘Steel City Stampede’ at the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania. For Sye Lynch, it was a brand new chapter in unmarked territory. The Apollo, Pennsylvania native had never competed in the ‘410’ ranks until the ‘Stampede’ weekend, and for the first time ever, the high school junior was entering competition at the Lernerville Speedway.

“I was definitely nervous” quoted Sye Lynch regarding his first ever start behind the wheel of a ‘410’ sprint car, “Being a third generation racer adds a lot of pressure…especially when the two generations before you made such a huge mark on racing…both of my grandfathers raced, and my grandmother was also heavily involved in racing…my dad has been racing for 35 years, so I definitely have some big shoes to fill.”

Sye Lynch competed in a ‘305’ sprint ranks for a large portion of the 2014 season; racing a majority of the time at the Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pennsylvania. The seventeen-year-old drove for the Lockhart family, as well as Bob McMillin; accumulating a few top-five finishes during his short stint.

“I started racing ‘305’ sprints for the Lockhart family at the beginning of 2014…and I also made a few starts for Bob McMillin” explained Sye Lynch, “I finished inside the top-five three times; including a few second place finishes…I was pretty happy with how things were going…to have an opportunity to go ‘410’ racing this quick was more than exciting”

It was Bob McMillin, a Wampum, Pennsylvania native and avid supporter of the western Pennsylvania sprint car circuit, who gave Lynch the opportunity to pilot a ‘410’ sprinter during the ‘Steel City Stampede.’ With the help from McMillin, and his father and mentor, Ed Lynch Jr., Sye was able to earn a top-five finish during his first ever ‘410’ sprint car feature start.

Lynch kicked off his ‘Steel City Stampede’ weekend with a heat race victory on Friday evening, October 24th. The western Pennsylvania youngster would return to ‘The Action Track’ on Saturday evening, October 25th; scheduled to start on the inside of the second row for the 25-lap, $3,000-to-win ‘Steel City Stampede’ main event. Despite battling an ill handling car due to tire bleeder issues, Lynch was still able to earn a fifth place performance. Rod George, a fellow western Pennsylvania native, was the $3,000 winner.

“Definitely a little bit of nerves going into it, but I just had to keep a clear mind and focus on the task at hand.” said Sye Lynch, “I started the race and followed Bowser for a while…I saw an opening and I took it, and pulled a slider on him coming out of turn four…we had a caution and it allowed me to restart second…during the caution, I could hear the bleeder in the right rear going off…I could tell that the bleeder was stuck..we lost about two pounds of air out of the right rear…I was able to hold on to finish fifth…I was definitely very happy with the top five finish…the support has been amazing…I can’t thank everyone enough.”

As far as next year, things are still undetermined. Lynch hopes to pilot a ‘410’ sprint car full time as soon as 2015, but only time will tell. For now, the third generation racer will continue to take advantage of any opportunity handed to him, and keep involved with the sport that has been a part of his family for decades.

“First of all, I want to thank Bob McMillin for allowing me to drive his sprint car” explained Lynch, “Not a lot of people would allow a seventeen-year-old kid, with little seat time, to drive their car…so a huge thanks goes out to him…I also need to thank Diezel Snow Removal, Simpson Racing, Precise Racing Products and Shell Shock Helmet Designs for all of their help…they all played a part in making this happen…the support behind me has been tremendous…I can’t wait to do it again!”
