The NDRL’s McKean County Raceway to Go Saturday Night Racing in 2014
East Smethport, Pennsylvania (November 26, 2013) The National Dirt Racing League’s home track, McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, PA completed the first season of operation back in September. The NDRL’s McKean County Raceway operated weekly in 2013 on Friday nights to avoid conflict with Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY as both facilities hosted the ultra-fast super late model division that has seen its numbers drop in the recent years regionally.
Moving forward into the 2014 season, MCR is returning to its weekly Saturday night racing program with a few Friday nights and other special events sprinkled in. “With the uncertainty of Stateline’s ownership and schedule for 2014, and two other tracks within an hour drive of MCR running on Friday nights, we chose to go back to the traditional Saturday nights this year, stated MCR general manager Chris Zuver.” Zuver continued by stating, “We also heard the suggestions from racers and fans that couldn’t make it to MCR on Friday nights due to Friday work schedules but could be there on a Saturday, all this played a factor in our decision to switch back to the tracks traditional Saturday nights.” The management team at MCR has communicated and coordinated this scheduling shift with the proposed new ownership team for Stateline Speedway.
The 2014 season tentatively kicks off on Friday, April 18, 2014 with the first annual MCR ‘Spring Classic’ which will be the first multi-day event that will be listed on the 2014 schedule. The 2014 point races begin the following week on Saturday, April 26th as the ‘Super 6’ divisions will once again be the NDRL Super Late Models, RUSH Crate Late Models, Modifieds (formerly known as Emods), Stock Cars (formerly known as street stocks), Pure Stocks and Mini Stocks.
The 2013 awards banquet will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Eldred Township Fire Hall in Eldred, PA. The banquet will be catered by Top of Line Catering from Bradford and full details will be announced in the near future. MCR off season work continues with a new clay racing surface being laid down on the 3/8 mile oval in E. Smethport PA.
