The NDRL’s ULMS Set to Battle at ‘Red Miley Rumble’ at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway

The NDRL’s ULMS Late Models will be back in action this Saturday, August 17 for the $5,106 to-win ‘Red Miley Rumble’ at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, PA and will serve as a tune-up for the silver anniversary of the ‘Pittsburgher 100’ that will pay $25,000 to-win for the NDRL ‘Let’s Get Dirty Tour’ in October.
The ‘Red Miley Rumble’ honors the late pioneer in western Pennsylvania racing, Red Miley. Red started the Miley family racing team back in 1969 at the tender age of 16. After 20 years of racing with Brother Ben, Red started Miley Motor Sports with other Miley family members and leased out the famed Imperial oval. 1989 is when Miley Motor Sports took over Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway, among other racing projects, all while Red continued to own Ben’s car and later became car owner for nephew and rising star Jared Miley of South Park, PA. Red lost his 18-month battle with melanoma in 2007.
Point leader Mike Knight of Ripley, NY leads the ULMS contingent into Dirt’s Monster Half Mile with a commanding 79 point lead over Bear Lake, PA’s Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs. Former ‘Pittsburgher 100’ Champion, Matt Urban from North East, PA sits third in the championship standings while two-time with Bristolville, OH’s Russ King fourth and Ron Davies of Warren, PA rounds out the top-five.
The local PPMS drivers will be on top over their game to defend their home turf. Defending PPMS Champion Mike Norris of Sarver, PA will be a force as will the rest of the PPMS regulars including Saxonburg, PA’s Alex Ferree, Kyle Lukon of Burgettstown, PA, National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Lynn Geisler of Cranberry Twp., PA and a host of other hard chargers.
The ‘Red Miley Rumble’ features a 53-lap, $5,106 to-win purse that includes over $3,000 in lap sponsorships. Lap sponsorships were used to up the total purse from just over $19,000 to over $23,000 for the 32 car starting grid, as well as a $100 Fast Time award provided by Imperial Tire and Automotive.
