SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (April 29, 2024) – Mother Nature has been a burden to most of the open wheel world, and that includes “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel, who lost another scheduled weekend of competition at the Sprint Car Capital of the World. Fortunately, it won’t be long before action heats up again, as the Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native is ready to venture south to Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, for a one-night shootout with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
“We took a look at the weather and things look promising, so we’re going to get a jumpstart on our weekend with a visit to Jacksonville on Wednesday,” Thiel, ace of the Gibbsville Cheese, Professional Plating Inc, Ludwig & Sons Trucking, Total Restoration Services, Scott Thiel Builders, Lift Pro, Schmidts Landscaping, Complete Water, Team 73 sprint car, said. “We’ve had success there in the past, so I’m excited to get back to Jacksonville and throw our hat into the ring with the Outlaws.”
Following their visit to southern Illinois, Thiel and Team 73 will turn their attention back to the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series, rejoining the upper Midwest’s touring group with visits to Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, Minnesota, and Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, on Friday and Saturday, May 3-4. Big Wheel will roll into the weekend as the current IRA championship points leader, maintaining a two-point margin over Jake Blackhurst.
Thiel, who is chasing an IRA title in 2024, finished second in his most recent IRA appearance at Beaver Dam Raceway on April 20; it’s the only IRA event contested thus far this season.
“We appreciate our partners and fans being patient with us as we battle through some of these early season weather spurts,” Thiel added. “The plan is to go out and put three solid nights together. That first win of the year is always the hardest to achieve, but I’m confident we have what it takes to get the monkey off our back this weekend.”
ON DECK:
Scotty Thiel and Team 73 will continue their 2024 campaign with a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series appearance at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Wednesday, May 1, followed by an IRA Outlaw Sprint Series doubleheader at Ogilvie Raceway and Cedar Lake Speedway on Friday and Saturday, May 3-4.
