SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (June 10, 2024) – “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel was all but perfect in his Sunday night visit to Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, concluding the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series-sanctioned Norm Nelson Classic with a triumph, as well as a $4,000 payday. Adding to the stat sheet, Thiel’s performance was wire-to-wire, leading all 30 circuits from the pole position after securing the spot with a dash victory.
For Thiel, ace of the Team 73, Gibbsville Cheese, Professional Plating Inc, Ludwig & Sons Trucking, Total Restoration Services, Scott Thiel Builders, Lift Pro, Schmidts Landscaping, Complete Water, Iron Buffalo Saloon, No. 73 sprint car, the IRA triumph was his second of the year, nailing down his first in an early season visit to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, on Saturday, May 4.
With IRA Outlaw Sprint Series competition on hiatus until Saturday, June 15 (returning to Wilmot Raceway for the Father’s Day Spectacular), Big Wheel and Team 73 will utilize the open week and hit the road, setting aim on a four-race Ohio Sprint Speedweek slate through the Buckeye State June 11-14.
“Overall, a great night for Team 73 at Angell Park. Things didn’t start out as well as we wanted them to, but to come back and win the dash and main event is pretty special. We made some changes and had ourselves a rocket,” Thiel said. “Hats off to the track crew for giving us a great surface to race on…smooth, wide and racy. It couldn’t have been much better. The plan now is to head to Ohio and see what we can do with FAST On Dirt in Ohio Sprint Speedweek. We have some obvious momentum on our side. It’s up to us to put it to work.”
