Three Races, Three More Top-10 Finishes for Kraig Kinser on the Outlaws Trail

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — May 11, 2014— Kraig Kinser continues to gain momentum as the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series season kicks into high gear. He competed three times in a four-day span this past week and earned three top-10 finishes. Kinser was 10th at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois, fifth at Wilmot Raceway in Wisconsin, and ninth at Tri-State Speedway in his home state of Indiana.

The trio of races began on Wednesday, May 7, at the quarter-mile Jacksonville Speedway, which was hosting the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series for the first time ever. Kinser started 16th in the main event and steadily worked his way forward and was in the top-10 by the halfway point of the 40-lap contest. Three yellow flags slowed the race, with Kinser using strong restarts each time to gain positions. He would eventually cross the line 10th in the Mesilla Valley Transportation/Casey’s General Store/King Racing Products Maxim.

Kinser was 18th-fastest in time trials at Jacksonville, which in the five heat program put him on the pole of the third heat race. He finished third in that 10-lapper, and would line up on the outside of the eighth row for the A-Feature.

On Friday, May 9, at Wilmot Raceway, Kinser finished fifth to earn his fifth top-10 finish in a six-race span and second top-five of the season. He started fourth and moved up third on the opening lap. He would run among the top-five for the duration of the 30-lap event, with two cautions slowing the proceedings.

Kinser was 13th-quickest in time trials at Wilmot, which put him on the pole of the first heat. He would win the heat race to earn a spot in the dash, coming home coming fourth in that six-lapper. Kinser took the green flag for the 30-lap A-Feature on the outside of the second row.

The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series annual visit to Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana on Saturday, May 10, found Kinser starting 13th in the 40-lap main event and taking the checkered flag ninth to earn his eighth top-10 finish of the season and sixth in the last seven races. A total of four yellow flags dotted the rough-and-tumble contest at the always racy quarter-mile bullring.

“We are definitely getting closer to where we need to be,” said Kinser. “The main thing from the last three races is that we were able to roll the car back on the trailer each night in one piece, which at small tracks is an accomplishment in itself. We have been qualifying in the right spot recently, but still have to take advantage when we have a front row starting spot in a heat race. It’s tough with the new format and as we’ve seen, getting in the dash can make or break your night. It’s good to be heading east with some momentum.”

Following the three races, Kinser is ninth in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings. He returns to action this weekend in the first East Coast Swing of the season with races on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, as well as Sunday and Tuesday of next week.
