MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa (July 11, 2022) – Despite a tough start to their long weekend that commenced with a rain out at Lee County Speedway on Thursday, July 7, which was eventually rescheduled to Sunday, and a mechanical issue that led to a DNF during action at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, July 9, TKS Motorsports and newly hired gun Ian Madsen recovered in solid fashion, capping their two-race campaign with a top-ten score in POWRi 410 action at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa, on Sunday, July 10.
Madsen, who started from the pole in Saturday’s Knoxville start before mechanical woes ended their potential top-ten run, finished seventh in his POWRi start, maintaining his place within the top-ten after starting one position better. The Australia native kicked-off the Sunday evening program with the ninth-fastest qualifying time, followed by a third-place finish during his respective heat race. There were 18 cars in attendance.
An issue with keeping the car in gear was the malfunction to blame at Knoxville. Madsen was sixth quickest of 32 cars at the Sprint Car Capital of the World, driving on to finish fifth in his heat race.
“It was a good way to end the weekend. Hopefully we can build some momentum off of this,” Troy Renfro stated, owner of the Albaugh LLC, Iowa Barnstormers, deWit Construction, Jersey Freeze, No. 2KS sprint car. “Hats off to Ian…I think we were clearly top-ten potential at Knoxville the night before, but things happen. We’ll move on with confidence and prepare to do big things this weekend.”
ON DECK:
TKS Motorsports and Ian Madsen will continue their 2022 campaign with Van Wall Equipment Marion Co. Fair Night at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, July 16.
