FOREST, Ohio (August 30, 2021) – Although forced to battle head-to-head with some of the nation’s finest non-wing aces, many of whom full-time competitors with the USAC National Sprint Cars, Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports put together a respectable streak of performances during Kokomo Speedway’s annual Smackdown, highlighted with a top-ten outcome during Friday’s preliminary contest.
Westfall, driver of Ray Marshall’s “Bumblebee Express” backed by Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc., Hempy Water, and DPI Ink, finished tenth during Friday’s main event, maintaining a spot within the top-ten after starting seventh on the grid. The former BOSS champion and former BOSS Smackdown winner earned his way into the preliminary main event by way of heat race victory.
Although unable to match his top-ten performance during Saturday’s double program, one of which a make-up date for Thursday, Westfall and Ray Marshall qualified for each of the respective main events and finished 14th and 21st.
Westfall finished sixth in Saturday evening’s semi-feature to qualify for the 40-lap, $15,000-to-win Smackdown X finale; over 40 cars made the call.
“It was a solid effort by our team all week. The talent at Smackdown is second to none, so to qualify says a lot. I’m proud of what we accomplished,” Westfall said. “I can’t thank Ray Marshall and the entire Ray Marshall Motorsports team enough for their hard work and dedication. Ray gives us the opportunity to go out and do what we love every single week. We certainly wouldn’t be here without his support.”
Although Ray Marshall Motorsports has an empty slate for Labor Day weekend, a trip to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota, is on the horizon, set to join the best of USAC for a triple-header on September 10-12.
