FOREST, Ohio (October 30, 2023) – Although Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports’ USAC campaign ended on a deary note, losing the Series’ season-ending doubleheader in Oklahoma due to Mother Nature, the Forest, Ohio-based non-wing operation still had one last chance compete, and compete is what they did, eventually concluding Waynesfield Raceway Park’s Goblin Classic with a runner-up score on Saturday, October 28.
Westfall, ace of Ray Marshall’s Buckeye Machine Fabricators Inc, Hempy Water, DPI Ink, No. 33M sprint car, started fourth in Waynesfield’s season-ending program, using his eventual runner-up performance to solidify his eighth top-five outcome of the year, simultaneously increasing his top-ten tally to 18. In addition, Westfall and his “Bumblebee Express” accomplished two victories in 2023, one during Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) competition in Florence, Kentucky, and the second during USAC competition at Texarkana 67 Speedway in Arkansas; the USAC triumph was a first-ever for car owner Ray Marshall.
“To end the year with a runner-up performance is pretty special for everyone at Ray Marshall Motorsports. We wanted one spot better, but it always feels good to be in the hunt,” Matt Westfall concluded. “Overall, I’m thrilled with our season. We accomplished a lot this year and I’m proud of our efforts. We were able to beat the best in the business at Texarkana and that’s definitely a moment we won’t forget. The off-season is a time to regroup and that’s exactly what we are going to do.”
