VINCENTOWN, N.J. (April 26, 2021) – Scoring what is officially his top result of the season thus far, Vincentown, New Jersey’s Justin Whittall turned a lot of heads on Saturday evening at the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace,” and rightfully so, as the Garden State native not only nailed down his first top-five of 2021, but he contended for a victory in the process.
Whittall, driver of the JW Motorsports, JG Kronenberger Fine Jewelry, Mid-Atlantic Transport, Brotherton Brewing Company, Beechwood Landscape Architecture and Construction LLC, Pioneer Auto Body, Worldwide Bearings, FK Rod Ends, Stilo Helmets, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Enterprise, Ground Blind Boys, No. 67 sprint car, started fourth on Port Royal Speedway’s Open Wheel Madness grid, kicking things off with a victory during his respective heat race.
“It felt really good to knock out that first podium finish of the season. Our team needed that and hopefully we can put this momentum to good use, especially with so many big races on our schedule in May,” Justin Whittall explained, who commutes from south-central New Jersey to central Pennsylvania each and every weekend to battle with the infamous Pennsylvania Posse. “The track ended up getting really wide and slick. Those are the surfaces we like to race on. They are a little more challenging to race on, but I think it makes the racing a lot better.”
With just a handful of laps checked off the counter, Whittall was able to power forward and drive by Kody Lehman for second, next setting his aim on race leader, Tyler Reeser. While Whittall pressured Reeser for the top spot, Steve Buckwalter entered the picture and drove by each of them, ultimately claiming the lead forcing Whittall to take a seat in third.
Not settling for third just yet, Whittall regained momentum and eventually made a move on Reeser for second with 13 to go, using the very bottom groove to sneak by the No. 35 at the entrance of turn three. Unfortunately, a bobble behind a lapped car with two to go forced Whittall out of his preferred groove allowing Port Royal’s Dylan Cisney to sneak by. Buckwalter held on to win, followed by Cisney and Whittall.
Justin Whittall and JW Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with another Williams Grove Speedway and Port Royal Speedway double on Friday and Saturday, April 30-May 1.
