Cancen Oil King of the West Sprint Car Series presented by Goodyear Notes & Pertinent Info
Kings Speedway Saturday June 2 – “Pombo/Sargent Classic”
What:
The always prestigious “Pombo/Sargent Classic” is set for action this Saturday night at the Kings Speedway in Hanford for the Cancen Oil KWS Series presented by Goodyear. The event honors California racing legends Al Pombo & Marshall Sargent and has been going on for over 20-years. The “Pombo/Sargent Classic” started at Kings Speedway in the 1980’s, before moving to the Thunderbowl Raceway in 2006.
This season however, the “Pombo/Sargent Classic” returns home to Kings Speedway and everyone is excited for that occurrence. “We are really happy to have the Pombo/Sargent Classic back home at Kings Speedway,” said track promoter Scott Woodhouse. “It should be a great night and we’ll also have the Vintage Super Modifieds as a tribute to the rivalry and friendship of Al Pombo & Marshall Sargent.”
Chico’s Jonathan Allard has extended his point lead to 38-markers going into this weekend at the Kings Speedway. The two-time state champion ended the KWS season last year by winning the Cotton Classic in Hanford and always runs well at the track. San Jose’s Tim Kaeding ranks second in the standings going into the “Pombo/Sargent Classic” and will look to bring home a win in his car owner’s backyard.
Eleven-time “Pombo/Sargent Classic” winner Brent Kaeding has moved to third in the Cancen Oil KWS Series presented by Goodyear point standings, with Scotts Valley’s Evan Suggs and Elk Grove’s Bobby McMahan rounding out the top-five. Three-time and defending event winner Tommy Tarlton of Easton will be another strong addition to the roster on Saturday, along with other top-10 KWS drivers Andy Gregg, Peter Murphy, Jason Statler, Willie Croft and Craig Stidham, plus many more.
