Baker “Rockets” to Super Late Model Victory;
Holtgraver Scores Pro-Late Laurels, Broniszewski, Evans, Podolinsky and Bolind Repeat
Bacchus Scores PA Vintage Mod Win

PITTSBURGH, PA — The racing action at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 10th, saw veteran driver Steve Baker score his first victory of 2013 in Diehl of Robinson Super Late Model action. In addition, Josh Holtgraver picked up his first win of the season in RUSH Pro-Late Model action. Repeat winners included Jeff Broniszewski (Sunoco Race Fuels Late Model Sportsman), Chase Evans (Miley BP Carwash Hobby Stocks), Dylan Bolind (Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns) and Joe Podolinsky (Wacky Wheels Figure Eight Mania). The PA Vintage Dirt Modified group also stopped by the “Monster Half Mile” and Paul Bacchus was the victor in their feature event.

Veteran Steve Baker proved that he still has the skills needed to “Get It Done” as he scored a very popular victory in the Diehl of Robinson Super Late Model main event. Kyle Lukon and Keith Barbara led the 25 lap main event to the green with Barbara showing the way followed by Baker, John Mollick, Alex Ferree and Brandon Burgoon. Lukon tagged the turn two wall on lap six and the event’s first caution waved as a result. When the racing action resumed Barbara continued to lead the way.

The caution flag waved twice on lap 17; first for Daryl Charlier and Jim Stephans who tangled in turn two to cause the first caution and then for John Garvin who spun in turn one on the ensuing restart. When racing resumed Baker showed the fans why he is known as the “West Virginia Rim Rider” as he battled Barbara for two laps before taking over the top spot on lap 20. Baker then cruised to his first victory of 2013 in the Richard Construction/Bland’s Towing sponsored Rocket Chassis. Barbara finished in the second spot followed by Burgoon, tenth place starter Jared Miley and Michael Norris.

Norris and John Mollick picked up the wins in the Super Late Model prelims.

It was an “All Lukon” front row for the start of the 20 lap Pro-Late Model feature event as Kyle Lukon started on the pole with sister Laura on the outside. Kyle immediately took the top spot with third place starter Josh Holtgraver, Mike Reft and Laura Lukon fighting for the second position. The event’s only caution flew on lap two when Tony White, Brian Goebel and Chuck Medved spun in turn two. When the racing action resumed Kyle continued to lead the event with Holtgraver and Dusty Curry battling behind him. When the checkered flag waved it appreared as though Kyle Lukon had picked up his sixth win of the season; however a spoiler infraction during tech inspection resulted in disqualification. Holtgraver was awarded the win in the D&T Auto Body/Knoblock Heating and Cooling sponsored Rocket Chassis. Curry claimed the second spot with Reft, L. Lukon and Mark Moats rounding out the top five

Moats and Tommy Schirnhofer were victorious in Pro-Late heat action.

Jeff Broniszewski returned to action at “Dirt’s Monster Half Mike” and claimed his fifth win in Late Model Sportsman action. The fifteen lap main event saw Broniszewski leading the entire distance after starting on the pole of the main event. Last week’s winner Bill Robertson placed second followed by Nick Kocuba, Christian Schneider and Joey Koteles.

Broniszewski and Gary Koteles claimed the Late Model Sportsman heat race wins.

Chase Evans returned to Victory Lane for the first time since May 25th as he scored the win in the Hobby Stock feature event. Evans led the entire distance of the main event to score the win over Alec Broniszewski, Hannah Ramsey, Dan Black and Ed Wiser.

Evans also claimed the lone Hobby Stock prelim.

Fourteen year old Imperial, PA resident Dylan Bolind scored his eighth victory of the season in Imperial Heights Young Guns action as he led the main event “wire to wire.” Last week’s winner Roman O’Neill was the runner-up followed by Michael Jackson, Karlee Kovacs, O.B. Huff and Jonathan Miller.

Joe Podolinsky was victorious for the second time in 2013 as he claimed the Wacky Wheels Figure Eight Mania event over Andrew Loria, Sam McGervey, Ian Tomei and Josh Langer.

The PA Vintage Dirt Modified group made their first visit of 2013 to “Dirt’s Monster Half Mile” and Valencia, PA resident Paul Bacchus scored the win over Ransomville, NY driver Chris Ketch, Dave George, Bill Harju and Kevin Mohney.

Ketch and Butler, PA resident Dale McCandless were the winners in heat race action.
