just two more saturday night events to decide 2013 fremont/attica sprint title championship

The world of sprint car racing converged on a small town in Iowa to see a familiar face in Donny Schatz hoist the trophy and reap the rewards after winning his seventh career Knoxville Nationals. This coming weekend two familiar faces to fans in Northern Ohio are set to battle it out for the $10,000 winner’s share of the Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title (F.A.S.T.) presented by KS Sales & Service as Craig Mintz and Byron Reed lead a host of 410 sprint car warriors to Attica Raceway Park on Saturday, August 17th. The event marks the final F.A.S.T. points event of the season at “Ohio’s Finest Racing” speed plant, a track which has yet to have a repeat winner in 2013.

Saturday’s 410 Sprint Car will pay $3,000 to win and start 22-cars for the 30-lap feature.

Also on Saturday, the 305 Sprint Cars are in competition as Nate Dussel looks to hold onto the points lead in the JLH General Contractors F.A.S.T. 305 Championship Series and put an exclamation point on his extraordinary 2013 campaign.

While still winless in F.A.S.T. competition this season, Craig Mintz maintains an 83-point advantage over Reed thanks to finishing inside the top-10 thirteen times, which includes six podium finishes. Mintz, the 2009 Fremont/Attica Sprint Title champion, will only need to make the next two A-Mains to ultimately claim his second career Northern Ohio title. Its hard to count out Byron Reed aboard the Crown Battery backed #5R who has rattled off three wins in 2013, but with those wins Mintz was on his heels in the runner-up spot twice, limiting any real gain in points. In order for the “Monclova Missile” to contend for his second career F.A.S.T. championship he will need to finish at least inside the top-5 and hope that Mintz’s streak of top-10 runs comes to end soon.

While attention is on the championship chase, numerous battles are brewing throughout the top-10 in F.A.S.T. Kistler Cup points. Currently the Burmiester Racing #16 driven by Chris Andrews holds down third place, but just 4-markers back is the #40DD Davis Brothers bullet Caleb Griffith. Just 25-points out of third is F.A.S.T. Rookie of the Year contender D.J. Foos who has shown steady improvement aboard the Genzman Racing Enterprises #53 week in and week out.

Dean Jacobs back aboard the Seeling Motorsports #97 in the last Fremont/Attica Sprint Title series event at Fremont sits in 6th place just 24-points ahead of Team CHR, Grace Community Church #2+ driven by Brian Smith (7th) and 27-points ahead of Brian Lay (8th). Not that far off is Duane Zablocki in 9th place who is coming off his best A-main finish of 4th at Fremont a few weeks back. Defending two time Fremont/Attica Sprint Title champion Bryan Sebetto rounds out the top-10.

As is customary for the 10-race mini series for the JLH General Contractors F.A.S.T. 305 Championship Series a tight battle brews with the top eight in points separated by just 100-points with only with two events left. Current points leader Nate Dussel has parked his Berrier Fabrications, Kylynn Manufacturing backed #1 in victory lane twice under F.A.S.T. 305 competition. Dussel leads veteran John Ivy in the Clark Motorsports #4i by just 25-points and 38-points over third place Dustin Dinan who has a series high three feature wins in the Tank’s Meats, Quality Welding backed #6. Young hot shoe Jordan Ryan sits in fourth place just 5-markers back of Dinan. Veteran wheel man Alvin Roepke rounds out the top-5 in points.

Gates on Saturday at Attica Raceway Park open at 4:00 pm with racing starting at 7:00 pm. More information about tickets, directions and hotel information can be found at www.atticaracewaypark.com.
